We had the good fortune of connecting with Aysegul Konak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aysegul, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business when I realized that, as a mother of two children, I could not maintain a healthy balance between a full-time job and family life. Life is flowing very fast and unfortunately today’s living conditions support this very much. I don’t want to get lost at this speed. Instead of following the rhythm of life, I try to make life fit my rhythm. As a result of these thoughts, I decided to become a freelancer.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I decided to do this job and started researching, I saw that there was a lot of competition. Also, too many trends and patterns were set about how your business should be. For example, there are certain ways of posing that are fashionable. These particular patterns bothered me and I decided to do this with the least interference to my clients. I usually leave them pretty free. I try to capture what they feel at that moment, their natural body language and facial expressions. I think that when they feel this freedom, very sincere and momentary frames emerge by themselves. This also builds a closer bond with your customers and builds mutual trust. I think my art draws its strength from this sincerity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It is very difficult to give a short answer to these questions and I think the answers to these questions depend on the expectations of the visitor. Los Angeles is an amazing place, thanks to both its cultural and natural beauties. I am a nature lover and places that are intertwined with nature make me happier. If you are like me, you should definitely see the beaches. My favorite beaches are Malibu, Newport and Venice. Especially local artists in Venice inspire me a lot. I would also definitely take my visitor to Huntington Library and Botanical Garden. We would hike on the Eaton Canyon Falls trail. I would plan daily visits to beautiful cities like Palm Springs, Ojai, Solvang and Santa Barbara. I don’t know anything about nightlife because of my lifestyle, you should ask others 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I first decided to start this business, I received lots of support from my husband. He contributed with his objective comments and thoughts in every step I’ve taken so far. I thank him very much. I am also grateful to my talented photographer friend Brian Knott for sharing his knowledge and answering all of my questions patiently. It is good to know there will be always a support when you think you need it.
