We had the good fortune of connecting with Azana Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Azana, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Visualizing success, being action oriented, and learning from people who were more successful than me.
Visualization has put me in the mindset of a winner. I’ve found a lot of motivation and confidence in being able to see the life and brand I want to build. I picture in detail who I will be and what Azana Serene will achieve. The more I see it, the more it feels like my inevitable reality. This means that what I do today can get me closer or further away from that life!
I put this positive mindset to good use by making sure it turns into valuable actions-ones that drive move closer to my goals. This is definitely a valuable habit because it is easy to make a plan or overthink , but never actually DO. Executing on plans is often the scariest part, but NOT taking steps is definitely scarier. So, I make a habit of implementing what I learn and holding myself accountable for making moves towards big dreams.
In my career, I’ve also been blessed to learn from quite a few creatives or business women and men. I think it is important to be a “student” as often as you can and be open to what someone can teach you. Amongst others, these habits have helped me to stay consistent on a daily basis and believe in the business woman I am becoming.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The fashion industry has always been one I’ve admired — from the craft of delicate evening wear to the way the right look can make you feel seen and powerful. It became a serious pursuit once I applied to FIDM (Fashion institute of Design and Merchandising) during my junior year of high school. With only one college application out in the world, I very literally put my all into the craft and fell in love with designers like Monique Lhuillier and the business savvy of others in the industry. I graduated with degrees in fashion design, international product development, and business management so that I could build my own brand.
I created the women’s luxury brand Azana Serene to celebrate ambitious women and their breakthrough moments. Fashion always has been a medium to build confidence, create elegance and uplift someone else who has poured into their passion
Along the way, I took a position doing User Interface for a COFEBE- simply to make money at the time with a skill I had from college. This too turned into something I am also passionate about and an opportunity to grow as a business woman as well as a designer. I’ve been nurturing both careers ever since. Today, I’m the founder of the luxury women’s brand, Azana Serene and head of design for COFEBE Inc.
If there was something I wanted to share about my story as a designer and business woman, it would be that importance of being unshakeable in your vision. I love what I do because I believe I am walking in my purpose and have the ability to use it for something greater than myself that will impact women positively.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s plenty of great spots to see in LA! if I had a friend visiting, we’d start with brunch in Culver City, roam the fashion district, and enjoy the city from a rooftop bar!
Santa Monica’s 3rd st. Promenade is another great spot to browse, shop and get to the beach.
The great thing about LA is you can take in everything from the beach to hiking tails, the art district and museums, and all the shops in Leimert Park.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have always been the core of my support system. Watching my father own and run his tech company, COFEBE, and taking his business advice has guided me this far.
One of the women I admire in fashion and business is Elaine Welteroth. Her persistence and ambition in her career from young is very inspiring.
