Meet Babak Hajhosseini | Physician-Scientist and Wound Healing Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Babak Hajhosseini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Babak, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After completing 16 years of rigorous medical training at some of the most prestigious institutions in the world—including Stanford University and UCLA—through medical school, research, residency, and fellowships, one thing became very clear to me: the current healthcare system often doesn’t allow physicians the time or space to truly care for their patients the way they deserve.
Too often, doctors are overwhelmed by arbitrary administrative demands and bureaucratic obligations that take away from what matters most—direct patient care. I wanted to change that. By starting my own private practice, I created an environment where I could devote more time to each patient and provide the level of personalized care that is often lacking in large healthcare systems.
This is especially critical for patients suffering from complex wounds such as pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, or burns. These individuals are some of the most vulnerable in our healthcare system. I’ve seen firsthand how they are frequently passed around—from one doctor’s office to another, from urgent care to emergency rooms—with no one willing or able to take ownership of their care.
At our practice, we’ve built something truly unique. While we are an independent, private practice focused on personalized, patient-centered care, we are also the only outpatient wound care center located at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Office Towers. Although we are not formally affiliated with Cedars-Sinai, we have access to their full network of specialty departments and services—something that’s essential for the multidisciplinary care these patients require. In short, we offer the best of both worlds: the intimacy and focus of a private practice with the resources and reach of a world-class medical center.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the President and CEO of Wound and Burn Centers of America, the world’s leading provider of advanced wound healing services. Our practice is dedicated to treating some of the most complex and challenging wound types—including pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, burns, and other wounds that are difficult to heal.
My training background is in general and plastic surgery, but what truly sets me apart is that I am among a small group of physicians in the nation who have completed advanced academic fellowship training in both “complex wounds” and “burn care”. To my knowledge, I am the only one from this elite group who has gone on to lead an advanced wound care center of this scale and impact.
Our motto is simple but powerful: “Healing Humankind, One Wound at a Time.” This mission drives everything we do. What brings me the greatest joy is knowing that our patients—many of whom have been overlooked or failed by the system—now have a place where they can receive the knowledge, expertise, and unwavering commitment they deserve. I fight for my patients every step of the way and do not rest until their wounds are healed—not only as quickly as possible, but also with the best functional outcome achievable.
The road to building this business was anything but easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced skepticism, systemic barriers, and moments of real doubt. But I’ve learned that when your purpose is authentic and you pour your soul into it with relentless focus and passion, there are no limits to what you can achieve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big fan of great coffee and baked goods, so we’d absolutely start the mornings with a visit to Maru Coffee or one of the Blue Bottle locations—both offer an exceptional start to the day. For pastries, I’d take them to Tartine Bakery or Bottega Louie, where the selection is as beautiful as it is delicious.
When it comes to food, I gravitate toward Mediterranean flavors. We’d enjoy a seafood dinner at Avra, or indulge in flavorful Persian cuisine at Shamshiri Grill or Raffi’s Place—both are local gems.
To round out the week, I’d plan a road trip along the coast to Malibu for sun, surf, and scenic views—or head to the mountains for a relaxing escape in Big Bear. Southern California has the perfect backdrop for making unforgettable memories!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, who have been my greatest role models. Through their example, they taught me that hard work, perseverance, and integrity are the foundations of any meaningful success. I learned early on that life can be incredibly challenging—and at times even cruel—but they instilled in me the belief that what gives life purpose is striving to do something extraordinary with the time we are given.
