Meet Babyghost | Musician, Singer/ Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Babyghost and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Babyghost, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want to be remembered by my music, my art, as I feel it’s the most definitive and unfiltered part of me. The concept of a “legacy” is so weird to me because I’m just hoping I mean enough to people in my life now. Most important for me is to see my friends and family thriving and fulfilled. I want to be an aid in this process, leaving positivity and resilience behind. I want people to remember my music, but I want them to remember where it came from and from whom.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When people ask me what kind of music I make, I got tired of answering with an unconfident and hesitant “everything.” It would only be followed by more questions. One day it clicked for me: my music reflects my gender identity. It is fluid, genre-bending, makes perfect sense sometimes and at others none; it steps past a binary to create outside the lines. The Babyghost tagline is “genderless and genreless.” This is my elevator pitch, the best sum of who I am and what I do. I am a queer, nonbinary musician and the evolution of my identity is one of the most essential voices in my art. From it comes explorations of pain, love, loss, and hatred. Music allows me to explore every difficult conversation and shows me what peace can look like. In embodying this tagline I decided to name my debut album “Genderless and Genreless.” It’s a ten song culmination of everything I do and am. I’m so proud to have released this to the world and can’t wait to hear what people think.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have an LA “hat draw” list in my phone notes. It’s everything I love doing and want to check out, but without the brain power of trying to think of something on the spot. There’s everything on this list from the Griffith Park Old Zoo to Smorgasburg to every farmers market I know of to all my favorite bars and museums. All my closest friends have seen or been sent this list and my partner’s a collaborator on the note. Some highlights: – OUTDOOR

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my partner and producer, Parker (Whose). They are an artistic inspiration but also push me to be the most focused, imaginative, and driven musician and person I can be. Making music with them has been a joy beyond my wildest dreams.
