Meet Baolong Song | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Baolong Song and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Baolong, what do you attribute your success to?
Awareness.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
“Curating the past, and reinventing it in the present.” I once read somewhere in a book on Arts; I’m grateful to say that I am lucky enough to have been able to study the work of all the photographic giants who came before me, while through their collective lenses, captured and created some of the work I humbly call my own. It takes a village, in the line of photographic work, whether it’s fashion, documentary, a curated image with glamorous makeup and timeless outfits, or just a simple portrait of a person, it is the team and its members who supported, guided and indulged my creative path that got me where I am today.
Taking a picture is never hard, except that what might be challenging or strenuous as one might say, it’s the process that leads up to the final edited image. Time, effort and energy needed to plan, to envision, to draw a blueprint and to pre-visualise all the necessary elements before the happening of the shoot, and being able to discard the findings of the process, to step into it with enjoyment, as I have been acutely aware of its challenges, is a dream come true.
One of the best lessons I’ve learned in the photography arena is, most of the time, people like to be late on set, so you might as well set the call time 30 mins early than the initial time…
As a photographer who loves faces, my dream and passion lie in the work of capturing and documenting the people and events who are influencing our generation in their own ways, I am still on my way~
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I once stayed by Venice Beach in a hostel that I couldn’t recall the name, but it was so close to the path-walk, you could walk to the beach within 2 mins of time. Waking up early in the morning was the best thing because you are able to see the Venice before the day’s chaos reigns in. And of course, nothing’s like walking along the path-walk midday while the crowd was crowding, dancers, skaters, tourists and performers, the world really is in Venice.
Grabbing a pair of skates, if you’re careful enough to avoid abrupt turns, the sands on the pathway just might spare you a bruised knee or two.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to the amazing group of friends and colleagues in the Boston area, whom with their talents, magic and warming presence, guided and supported my journey as a photographer. Once a group of models, makeup artists, stylists, fashion designers and agents, are now the group of incredible souls whom I’m lucky to call friends.
