We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, how do you think about risk?
Everything I’ve done thus far in my life has been taking with taking risk and or sacrifice, but I don’t regret any decisions I’ve made. In order to make it in the industry or just make it in life in general you have to be willing to give it 1000% Because if you don’t train, if you’re not hungry, if you’re not in the right mindset and stay ready your gonna get pushed aside.
Right now in my life, I am blessed to say that I am signed with a management that I am getting auditions of a lifetime but with that also comes rejection. But I look at how far I’ve come and it makes me so excited for what’s to come. I will always be taking risk for the rest of my life. It makes life more exciting, keeps you on the edge of your seat. But also keeps you grounded in ways words can’t express.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I started dancing when I was four and singing and acting when I was eight. I grew up as a studio kid, and then I went to a performing arts high school, which led me to attend a performing art college. After I got my BFA in Dance theater and from there with all the knowledge that I’ve soaked up throughout the years, I started auditioning. Getting where I am today was not easy, especially with all the traveling that this career holds sometimes can make you a bit homesick and I’m from Detroit Michigan but right now I live in Los Angeles California following my dreams so I’m thousands of miles away from family and some days, it sucks because I can’t go home and talk to everyone. I have to call everyone on the phone and see them through the screen and we all know it’s nothing better than being with people in person. But I’m out here for a reason I have a goal and I’m going to succeed to make my family proud. Lessons that I’ve learned is to just stay true to you no matter what and I feel like I’m really good at that. I love expressing who I am and just having a great time because it’s hard trying to be somebody else. It’s already one of them, but who are you? What I want people to know about me is that I am a very bubbly, bright positive humble human being that just wants to live out her dream. And if you go to any of my social media pages, you will see just that. I’m not here for any drama. I just want to stay hopeful and keep my pride and be proud of the person I am at the end of the day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So if my friend came to hang out with me, I would hands-down need to do something adventurous right away. Like maybe horseback riding, ATV riding, Rollerskating, Escape room, Rage room, the list goes on. We will also have to go to the Americana. I am obsessed with that place and also catch a movie while we are there. One day, go to happy ice and get some shaved ice. Probably take a nice pottery class and then go to the Griffith Observatory and watch the sunset or something but yeah I think that would be really fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow, where do I even start?
So my mom and dad first off they are my rock. They support everything that I’ve ever wanted to do. No matter how crazy it sounds they were there. My siblings, my brother and sister always there to lift me up when I’m down. Give me the confidence that I need and love me no matter what. My amazing teachers which is too many to name, but the main two that come to mind is Mrs. Burrel and Mrs. Palmer. They are the two women that molded me into who I am today. Gave me opportunities to step out of my shell and just lead the way effortlessly. I have so many people in my life that played major and small parts in my career. Is hard to pick one person because every time I step outside my door each morning, I encounter a new soul that could possibly change my life.
