We had the good fortune of connecting with Beau Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beau, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance for me has change a bunch over the years. Sometimes when working for yourself, it is really tough to separate the two especially when it comes to client work. Working hard to keep that within my office hours has really helped me focus more during the day and enjoy my personal life. However, I try to engrain my personal artwork into my daily life. It’s important to grab inspiration where ever you are.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently work full time as an artist and designer. I spend most days doing illustration and branding work for a large array of businesses and people. I also paint large scale murals when I can get away from the computer, those are some of my favorite commissions! I also try to spend some time painting in my studio each week. Lately i’ve been painting a bunch of western scenes inspired by the ranch my studio sits on and my childhood out in Arizona. I’ve gotten to where I am today by networking, practicing my craft and trying my best to not care if I fail or not, which can be scary. Learning a lot of lessons along the way, I think one thing I could say is that process is everything.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course I’d have give some credit to my family and friends for always being extremely supportive. Without that I wouldn’t be where I am today! I would have to credit some of the first people and small businesses I did design and illustration work for. They really gave me a platform to figure out life as an artist and develop my own style!
