Meet Ben & Noreen Berkowitz | Co-Owners WE LOVE DOGS

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben & Noreen Berkowitz owners of WE LOVE DOGS INC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben & Noreen, what do you attribute your success to?
For us working with dogs, we have spent years getting to know the people in our community, and every day we understand better how much our relationships with their humans helps us take better care of their dogs. Even as we have grown from a dozen dogs to over a hundred, we hear constantly that our much more personal approach to the care we give our dogs is a key to a much more fun and happy environment for the dogs to play and train.

What should our readers know about your business?
My wife and I love dogs, our kids love dogs, most of our friends love dogs, and we began to realize where we live it seems like there are more dogs than people. So one day about 5 years ago we decided to start We Love Dogs. It began mostly with me walking and caring for the dogs we knew, and by word of mouth it just grew really fast. We had a very simple plan, to help everyone we knew with their dogs and try to make a living doing it. Everyday I see dogs at our daycare who were among those first dogs we started walking years ago. A friend once told us that we weren’t in the dog business, we were in the trust business. We really took that to heart and we really focus on building a family of dogs and people, many know each other and we plan to do more social events and meet ups in the future now that we have a public space. There are so many options for dog training and daycare in Los Angeles, but people like our more personal and hands on approach. We built this all on loyalty and trust. The biggest challenge for us has been transitioning from being dog walkers and sitters and doing training sessions on location, to having a brick and mortar shop where we can host dogs and people for educational fun everyday. We have classes for dogs and people and its a lot of hard work maintaining the shop, but its something we have been wanting to do for a long time, and we are really proud of our little mom and pop store.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well it is an old standard but I love the Farmers Market at Fairfax and 3rd I have been going there since I was a kid visiting LA and the We Love Dogs shop is just down 3rd st from it, its a fun place to go with visitors or meet up with our friends. We also love the beach, any chance we have to visit Malibu, grab lunch at Neptunes Net of the 1, or even just walking around Santa Monica. I also think living here we take Hollywood for granted, warts and all it is still a legendary place and the iconic nature of out is still fun to visit once in awhile. I think everyone should have dinner at Musso and Frank’s at least once in their life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A good friend of ours who is a mother of 4 and a business owner who makes the absolutely best Cannabis edibles I have ever had is Shifra Klein of Hamsa Kosher edibles, the has been a source of help support and business savvy for us since we started.
