We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks and being a risk taker has been essential in any successes that I’ve had in my career. Whether it’s packing my bags in a blink of an eye and moving to LA, NYC without any real plan etc to taking on an opportunity without any promise of success. Without taking risks in music it’s almost impossible for artists to get to that next level.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of my music and artistry, it sets me apart from other rappers/ artists because you can’t name another artist in music who has the same sound and style as me in music. I got to where I am today simply because of my love and dedication to making music, it hasn’t been an easy journey or a short one but this game an industry is a marathon not a sprint. I have had to overcome many challenges in my career and life outside music from losing close friends, to being in and out of jail, struggles with drugs and lifestyle but have been blessed to overcome these challenges through my faith in god and support from friends and fans. I have learned so many lessons along the way and still learn every day, learning is something I want to never stop doing as I move forward in my music career. I want the world to know me for my individuality and talent in music and making great records. I think being different and being yourself is the most important thing in building a great brand and career.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmmm, that depends if the friend has been there before but let’s say they haven’t. Right after the pick up at LAX we gotta go to a dispensary and probably take them to my favorite food spot in LA,Tender Greens. After that when the bags are back at the house and everyone is settled then probably going to melrose or somewhere in the fashion district just to show them all of that since they never been here. I always love to see what my favorite boutiques or stores have, even when I’m just there “window shopping” I feel like I always end up with a bag in my hands and a smile on my face.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my longtime brother and legend Fredo Santana. Without his belief and faith in me I wouldn’t be the artist I am today and had half the opportunities and success that I’ve been blessed to have thus far. Rest in peace to a legend in music.
