We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Gonzalez Kylie Skoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Big days By B&K, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We were both in a place where we were eager to grow and put our creative abilities to work. We spent a few years gaining knowledge in different areas regarding this business. Bianca was working in the industry and learning about the forefront of how events come to life while I was studying business and learning how to operate a business on the backend.
Bianca: “ I knew from a very early start in this industry that I wanted something of my own. I’d put so much effort and love into something that wasn’t mine, I could only imagine what I could do creating something of my own. I genuinely love what I do.This industry is not for the faint of heart, but I’ve found that for that reason I wanted nothing more than to have a business where I could be challenged on a daily basis and have love and passion for what I do. ”
Kylie: “I always knew that I wanted to pursue business whether it was owning one, leading one, or in this case both. I went into college with a declared major, eager to become knowledgeable in my study. What I didn’t know was how much excitement it would bring me. I left college eager to create and I am beyond happy with where I am now. This career has given me so much purpose and fulfillment while always challenging me.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our lives have really changed this year when it comes to Big Days by B&K. We sat down recently and were just amazed by the opportunities we have already had this year and the opportunities that are ahead. With that being said, on most days you will find us either meeting with clients while we prepare for their Big Day or meeting with each other to build our company. A goal we set for ourselves for 2023 was to share what our mission and culture is, and how our team works. One thing about the two of us is we work really well together. We often just give each other that look and know its GO TIME. We have established a process that is effective and now we want to teach that process to others. With all of the events we have ahead, we have found ourselves needing more and more staff. We have been focusing on how we want to instill that process in our team while solidifying who we are so that our team is proud of what we have created and what we do. One of Big Days by B&K biggest goal is to provide quality service creating an experience full of everlasting memories. Ultimately its for our team and our clients to really believe in that mission and the culture of Big Days.. While we feel like we are just getting started and there is so much more to do, we are really proud of where we are now and can’t wait for what’s to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start the morning with a hike before heading to brunch at Poppy + Rose. We’d then take a drive through PCH to head home and freshen up. Knowing us, we love a good time and would end our night at a fun bar (preferably roof top or dive bar) enjoying our night out with possibly a spontaneous adventure to end it. Our careers tend to be busy and require a lot of planning so a day or night out for us is always best when we can just relax and go with the flow.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
While we take great pride in the work we have put in to get us here today, we know we could not have done it without the help of several people in our lives and in this industry who have mentored us and encouraged us along the way. We come from two families that have worked incredibly hard to give us the knowledge and values that we carry in our everyday lives. The work ethic they have instilled in us has made a direct impact in the success of our business today. From a single mom working two jobs to two parents missing out on extra curricular activities to make sure we were given everything we needed and more. They have paved the way before us and we are so thankful for all that they have shown us.
