Meet Bobby Rivero | Special education teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Rivero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bobby, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business serves as a bridge between the autism community and my local surf break in Venice, California. My primary objective is to facilitate the integration of autistic children into the community through a sensory-rich and safe surfing program that I personally lead.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe my dedication to serving families year-round sets me apart. While other organizations offer surf therapy weekly or monthly, I’ve made it a full-time weekly service. I started this program during COVID as a way for families to have activities during limited outdoor and indoor options. It wasn’t easy, especially for children with sensory seeking needs. I thought, “Let’s get out and surf. It’ll offer physical and mental benefits.” Four years later, the kids I work with are thriving. I want to share that no matter life’s challenges, there’s always a way to change the playing field. Kids on the spectrum are unique and joyful. They’ll change your perspective on the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Start early and get “lost” in downtown LA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my hometown and community of Venice, California. Without the help of community members and individuals in and out of the water, this would not be possible.
