Meet Bofan Zhang | Film Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bofan Zhang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bofan, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Keep an organized and positive mindset. When working as a producer, sometimes I have to oversee and take over multiple projects as a leader. It’s always beneficial to keep myself well-organized. Meanwhile, I believe in the Law of Attraction, positive thoughts will eventually bring positive experiences into our life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a bilingual film producer based in Los Angeles, born and raised in the southern part of China. After graduating from Communication University of China in Beijing, I came to New York where I continued my study in film producing for another three years. The most valuable thing I’ve learned is to be patient and move forward steadily. I produced narrative films, documentaries and commercial shoots in the U.S., China and South Korea.
I currently work as a producer on a Chinese feature film, officially selected for the project forum of three prestigious Chinese film festivals. I’m associate-producing a ULB feature film in pre-production, to be shot in LA. The script was selected for 2022 Wscripted’s Cannes Screenplay List. Meanwhile, I associate-produced the award-winning feature documentary GO THROUGH THE DARK (DOC NYC world premiere, World-Fest Houston Gold Remi Winner) with the emerging director Yunhong Pu, lead-produced by the Emmy Award-winning editor Jean Tsien (76 DAYS). I realized myself growing fast by making projects. Due to the nature of the low budget projects I’ve worked on, I had to learn producing from all aspects, from development, line producing, production management, post supervising, festival strategy to contract negotiations, etc; which in another way, provided me many opportunities to build up a solid foundation of my producing skills.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Irvine has the best Chinese food in the area! Spicy Palace Hot Pot is one of the most decent hot pot spots in town. Also, if you are a bubble tea lover, visit OMOMO Tea Shoppe!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My cousin is definitely one of my most treasured people. She is pursuing her PhD Degree in Psychology at UPenn. We’ve been knowing and taking care of each other since we were kids. She is an honest and sincere friend, a trustworthy mentor, who always listens, supports and encourages me. I always come to her and ask for opinions before making important decisions. Having such a precious person in life is definitely a blessing.
