We had the good fortune of connecting with Boyu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Boyu, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being an artist and singer-songwriter gives me purpose in life and I feel extremely fulfilled when I create and share my music with others. In tandem to my music career, I have a corporate finance career that I hold down which funds my music journey. Balancing both can get difficult at times but ultimately, when I log off in the evening from my 9-5, there’s nothing else I’d rather do with my free time than write new songs, attend and play shows, meet and collaborate with other creatives, & build up the empire of Boyu Music from the ground up.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most excited about the recent debut album I just released on 11/11! It’s titled “Flower Garden” and it’s a culmination of work since the COVID-19 pandemic. The concept of the Flower Garden goes as follows: Each song on the album resembles a different type of flower. Similar to how a real flower garden is carefully arranged by color and symbiosis, my 12 song project is carefully curated by the tempo, genre, & overall vibe. Together, “Flower Garden” guides the listener through an euphoric auditory journey. There’s something for everyone in this album and I’m excited for people to listen through!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d definitely take them to a show – there’s so many shows going on every day from the indie backyard vibes to the arenas. I’m also a fan of anything outdoors so I’d take them on a hike, perhaps Wisdom Tree or to the Hollywood Reservoir for a nice stroll. For food, I’d show them all you can eat KBBQ in K-town then take them to boba somewhere in Alhambra. For a fun night out, we’d grab drinks at a rooftop bar, my favorite being Perch or Desert 5 Spot.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out all the collaborators that have worked with me on this “Flower Garden” album. From production to engineering to visuals, I’m blessed to be surrounded by a bouquet of talent. Two people that deserve a little extra recognition in my story are Zenii and FLASCH as I felt like they were the first two to really believe in my music and vision. Zenii and I collaborated on 11 of the 12 songs on the album and FLASCH and I collaborated on 5 of my music videos. Go take a listen to the songs and watch the videos if you haven’t already, you’re missing out!
