We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Milloy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandi, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
For me, it’s all about rhythm and routine when it comes to work and life. I love a good morning routine. My husband and I have been waking up at 5am every morning Monday through Friday for over ten years. This is our time to be still and spend quiet time together. He stretches and I do my morning devotional. Then we both exercise at 6am. At least twice a week I go on a 3 mile beach walk. I absolutely love spending time in nature. My brain and body function so much better when I give myself that time. Work usually begins after my children are off to school. I try to get ahead of deadlines so that I’m completely present with my children.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Working as an on camera TV host and lifestyle expert has been my dream since I was a little girl. I am so blessed to get to do what I do! About ten years ago I started my own business working with brands to create food and lifestyle content. Since then I’ve hosted my own show on Cooking Channel, worked as a judge on cooking competition shows on Food Network and have been able to have the flexibility to be a super hands on mom. Working for myself has given me so much creative control with the work I put out and where I invest my time and energy. I’ve been fortunate to work with amazing clients over multiple years including World Market, Sunkist Citrus, AMAZON, Smart & Final and more. Currently I’m a contributor for KTLA 5 News, NBC’s CA LIVE and most recently I appeared as a guest on the Tamron Hall Show in NYC.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love living in the South Bay. There are so many hidden gems and the energy by the beach is unmatched. Our day would start with a walk along the Strand, grabbing an espresso from Two Guns along the way. For lunch, we would hit up Proudly Serving in Hermosa Beach for the best burgers and fries in the city. My order is the PS Burger (double patty with cheese, griddled onions, pickles and special sauce) with a side of Chili Cheese fries and their homemade ranch. On Tuesdays, the Manhattan Beach Farmer’s Market is a must to pick up the best produce, meats, cheeses, speciality foods, snacks & flowers around. If you’re looking for the best poke, Jus’ Poke in Redondo Beach is as close to authentic Hawaiian poke as you’re going to get. I love grabbing it to go and bringing it to my favorite spot in the sand. Abalone Cove Park in Palos Verdes is a great spot to visit the tide pools and explore marine life like starfish, crabs and sea anemone. You can also spot whales and dolphins there. We love to ride our bikes on the bike path along the beach and go stand up paddle boarding in Marina del Rey. For shopping, I go to Manhattan Village-everything is in one spot and I love how their outdoor area is super family friendly. My favorite dinner spots in the South Bay include Arthur J for the most delicious steak and Jame for homemade pasta and the best kale salad in LA. My favorite margarita right now is at Jaime Taqueria. They have a spicy passion fruit marg made with habanero and two types of tequilas that is amazing. For dessert, I can’t get enough of the salted caramel butterscotch pot de creme at Porterhouse in El Segundo. It’s out of this world amazing. For ice cream we always go to Creamy Boys and get their best flavor the Hokey Pokey which is New Zealand soft serve vanilla with toffee honeycomb pieces throughout. There is no other ice cream like it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and encouragement from my Dad. A retired Warrant Officer 5 in the US Army and a helicopter pilot who served two tours to Vietnam, he always encouraged me to work hard and follow my dreams. He loved what he did and he would always tell me if I found a career I loved, it would never feel like work. He prayed for me everyday, would write me notes of encouragement and anytime I needed advice he would let me spend hours talking to him on the phone.
