We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Atencio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

I think taking risks is extremely important because although the unknown is scary it can also be a wonderful thing. As far as taking risks one of my biggest accomplishments to this day was taking the risk of leaving all of my family and friends and making the big move to Los Angeles.

The first year was without a doubt the hardest. I moved away from where I was comfortable and quickly found how uncomfortable it was to move to a new city by myself.
I dealt with loneliness and doubt and I often questioned myself if moving to California was the best decision for myself. I was in an almost fatal car accident that left me without a car.
At that point I was struggling to get to work and to make a living, but I picked my head up and I moved forward with a positive attitude.
By the end of the year I landed a lead role in one of Fox & Hulu’s brand new TV show’s 9/11 The Fifth Plane.
I also made connections with one of Hollywoods most renowned makeup artists which lead to a job where I was booked for a huge Hollywood movie that was filmed at Blue Cloud Movie Ranch just outside of LA.
The moral of my story is to take risks. Be ok with being uncomfortable because the most successful people today made it to where they are because they took risks and because they got out of their comfort zone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is that I have a love and a light inside of me. I genuinely care about people and treat people with kindness and respect. I am most proud of making my big move to California and taking the risk because I gotta tell you it wasn’t easy. I got to where I am today with the help of my mom. When I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico she would take me to auditions every now and then and she would also help me submit myself for many acting roles. I found myself on set of one of the most popular TV shows Breaking Bad starring Bryan Cranston as one of his high school student’s. I went to school on set at Albuquerque Studios (Now Netflix Studios) since I was in high school at the time. I remember the day like it was yesterday, my grandfather who passed a couple years ago brought me to set and got to experience the magic with me. It wasn’t easy but what I’ve learned along the way is that if you stay persistent and you continue to be uncomfortable you get more comfortable along the way. I overcame the challenges by continuing to audition and to accept rejection and to not take it personally. What’s meant for you is meant for you! I want the world to know that following your dreams isn’t easy but also working a 9-5 isn’t easy. Pick your battle. I would prefer to work for myself and to work on my own dreams rather than for someone else’s. If I can do it, you can too!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting and believe me they already have. I would take them to Manhattan Beach. I chose this beach because it is less crowded and the vibes are unmatched. I would take them out to eat at Joey DTLA because the atmosphere is bliss and the food is incredible. For an evening of dancing I would take my friends to West Hollywood where all of bars and clubs are. My apartment has the best spa/hot tub and we would make it a point to hit the hot tub at least once a day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would absolutely like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Camille Atencio. Since I was eight years old she has always supported my dreams and has been my biggest supporter since the very beginning. I love you momma!
