We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Atlas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I feel like a lot of people that are not in the modeling industry, definitely glamorize or idolize the life of a model. A lot of people don’t understand that whilst the industry CAN be very glamorous, there are a lot of downsides to being in the industry. Because models are constantly expected to look or act a certain way, insecurities can be overwhelming and your lifestyle can get strenuous. Skincare and exercising is definitely a must for me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Rather than just a model, I’d like to describe my brand as a well rounded one. I grew up doing all mediums and forms of art. What makes me unique is that I pull references from all sorts of things. I’m heavily inspired by western pop stars, queer culture, and my Asian heritage. I have had a lot of successes as a 20 year old. I have been published internationally, walked fashion week, and have worked with some amazing brands for their international campaigns. The biggest upcoming accomplishment I would say, would be my first debut EP releasing in 2021! I got here because of blood, sweat, and tears (literally!) anyone that knows me, knows that I am extremely ambitious. I moved out to LA right after high school when I turned 18 and haven’t looked back since. It was definitely not easy, I’ve struggled so much with mental health, and there are many days where I feel like I have no sense of self. To combat this, I remind myself of my purpose, which is to one day curate a platform for queer POC artists to gain recognition. Diversity and representation is very important to me. Something that I’d like the world to know, is that my name is Brandon Atlas, and I am here to break boundaries, and I will fight for more representation for my community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has so much to offer. Every nook and cranny has something to offer. Every city has something different to do. If someone were to come over and stay, I’d definitely recommend them to go hiking, stop by the beach, and try different foods in each city! LA is super fun, and every day is an adventure.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout everyone who has supported me along the way and also the negative people in my life. Everything happens for a reason, and every person that I’ve met has taught me a lesson whether it be good or bad. I still cherish everyone that has been nice to me and has uplifted me to this day. When I make it to the top, I’m bringing everyone with me.
