We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Hardy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process first and foremost was praying God, “how do You want me to impact the world with what you’ve given me?” His reply was don’t be afraid I’ve already given you everything you needed to be successful. With that in mind and my family behind me I knew just how vital it was for me to embark on a journey that not only would leave an imprint on this world but leave a legacy for my kids when it’s all said and done.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For me what sets me apart is my ability to wear multiple hats at the same time the way I am able to. Not only can I say that having not even reached the age of 40, I have my own companies, a book and album (releasing new music constantly), a full time family man, and whenever called upon able to preach sermon. If I were to say it’s easy, I’d be lying but that’s in my opinion one of the defining moments of identifying success and that is doing that which is NOT easy. The only way I overcame those challenges was recognizing that everything was working out for my good! I’ve wanted to give up more times that I can count or even comfortable to admitting to. I’ve made choices in the past that could’ve destroyed my family yet the divine power that worked above my circumstances always saw me through every hard time. I’ve had to learn the importance and essence of taking my time and not rushing something before it’s intended time. There will be those that say you didn’t have to go through that had you done this, but for me every hard lesson learned is worth more than any level of comfort brought on by fear of chartering the unknown. It’s in the unknown areas of life where we discover our realest and best selves. For me without the pain and failures there is no success. The whole meaning behind my company Poetic Levels is providing services and products that not only entice the consumer’s mind but leaves an impact on the soul. When I think of something being “poetic” I think of something being spiritually motivated and when you add levels to that you’re able to look at everything around you through the prism of your soul and using it to take you to higher levels.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hands down the first place I’m taking anybody is to the beach. Whether it be Redondo or Venice Beach, the beach is a must because it helps get the mind right. The sound of ocean waves when taking in reflections of life is not only satisfyingly soothing but essential to mental health. From there, if there is one spot to eat that is a must is Killer Shrimp in Marina Del Rey. Any one that knows me, knows my love for Mac and Cheese and I consider myself to be quite the connoisseur of the dish. However Killer Shrimp’s lobster Mac and Cheese is absolutely one of the best Mac and Cheese outside a couple of homemade recipes. From there we’d have to go to my hometown Inglewood to Ms. Ruby’s diner who has the absolute best Red Velvet cakes ANYWHERE! (Fight me if you want, I’ll win). Me personally because I’m not much of a club goer anymore if I were to go anywhere for drinks and hanging out it would have to be the Savoy. The vibes there are everything! Because I am also all about family a trip to Cali is not complete without a visit to Disneyland. Whether with the kids or without, Disneyland always offers a variety of good fun and food highlighting the jazz kitchen at downtown Disney!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In all honesty after God, I truly want to dedicate this to my parents who no matter what was ever going on with me never allowed me to feel isolated. Let’s face it this journey is about living, making mistakes, and our ability to get through those times. But even more importantly are the ones that in our darkest moments never cast us aside. From my parents, my grandfather, and my Pastor they are ones that no matter what was going on kept it all the way real but more importantly never let me feel as if I was alone. So many times I felt the temptation to give up but it was God’s influence through them that pushed me to keep going.
