We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The driving force behind my decision to establish my own business was the desire for growth and the creation of a safe haven for my clients to have an exceptional experience. I had worked in various types of barbershops, and I yearned to have my own establishment where I could craft the ambiance that my clients would truly appreciate.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I’d like to share some insights into the opportunities I’ve had and the opportunities I’ve taken since I first started working as a barber. I didn’t turn down any job offer, no matter how unusual it may have seemed. For example, if someone asked me to come and cut their hair at 2:30 in the morning, I would do it. If it was a celebrity that I needed a haircut before the club opened, I would come to them. And if it was a friend that wanted me to come to their house right after work, I would do it. I didn’t turn on anything.down.
I must admit that my journey wasn’t particularly easy. When I first began, I had to learn everything from scratch, and I wasn’t particularly gifted. However, I was determined to keep practicing and grinding, and I knew that with persistence, I would eventually reach my current level of proficiency.
As far as the lessons I’ve learned in my field, it’s that you should remain professional at all times, respect others, and take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way. This professional mindset is limitless.
I want to express my deep passion for my work. I treat my clients with utmost respect and take everything seriously. I remain humble and committed to the growth of my brand and my story. My brand and my story are me, Brandon The Barber. Everything I’ve been through—the good, the bad, the ups, the downs, the time, the effort—is evident in my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if my friend were visiting from out of town, I know we both enjoy golfing, so I’d definitely take them to a couple of golf courses in the area, like Wilson and Harding in Griffin Park. Then, I’d probably take them to Universal City Walk. It’s a must-visit! I’d also make sure to hit up a few of my favorite restaurants, like Luminaries and Sol Agave. And of course, I’d bring them to my neighborhood, Richland Farms, and show them around the Compton Cowboy Ranch.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to my family for their unwavering support, especially my grandmother, Yvonne Arceneaux, a retired city councilwoman for the third district in Compton. I would like to recognize Marquè Womack, the owner of Compton Barbershop, for taking me in and teaching me the art of barbering. Additionally, I want to acknowledge the Compton Cowboys organization for providing me with the opportunity to showcase my unique talent on their horses. Lastly, I want to express my appreciation to Andis Clipper Company for believing in me and granting me an incredible ambassador position, allowing me to promote their products globally.
