We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy Thee Yella Stallion and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandy, what principle do you value most?
Integrity, kindness, compassion and honesty are all values of character that I hold dear to me., but if I just had to choose one, I will would lean more towards honesty and it’s not just about being honest to the world, but to be honest and living in the truth of who I am as an individual.
I believe honesty is going to take me places in life that I never could have dreamed and it’s the easiest thing I can practice in order to be happy, successful and fulfilled. Honesty is part of the foundation of my core values and principles. It cuts through deception and knifes its way through deceit and lies. Honesty has and will always lead me to a fulfilling, free life.
I can’t stress enough how honesty is not just about telling the truth. It’s about being real with yourself and others about who you are, what you want and what you need to live your most authentic life. Honesty promotes openness, empowers me and enables me to develop consistency in how I present me. It sharpens my perception and allows me to observe everything around me with clarity.
If you ask anyone to describe me in one word, it would be honest. I will be the most transparent person you’ll ever meet. What you see is what you get! 🙂
“Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving.”
― James E Faust
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Oh by far, it has not been the smoothest, however, I have enjoyed this process and have been learning more about myself along this journey than ever of being a curvy model and ethnically ambiguous actress. I would say the main struggles I have is perfectionism and being my own worst critic. I catch myself being so caught up in the details being on point before I dive in to the point I almost self-sabotage. I have been learning every day, like Nipsey Hussle once quoted “Instead of trying to build a brick wall, lay a brick everyday. Eventually, you’ll look up and you’ll have a brick wall.” I am teaching myself to continue to do a bit each and everyday towards my goals and stay consistent. Before I know it, everything will fall in place! Trust God!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I am such the home body, also because I am a transplant from Texas (born and raised). But I do feel best just relaxing on my big comfy couch with my 7 year old baby girl, Alayah, and doggy named DohDoh while listening to H.E.R. or Sabrina Claudio play on the t.v. My home is truly my sanctuary and safe space. I also love to meditate, read my oracle cards, do rituals for self care, and pick up a good book from my mini library!
When I do decide to go out, my babies and I take a trip to the Venice beach to simply walk the boardwalk and stick our toes in the sand with a mini picnic by the water. Smelling the fresh air and feeling the soft breeze with warm of the sun beating down. I enjoy the simple things!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my gosh, first and foremost, I just want to give the utmost praise to God. For what you have given me, I am grateful. For what you are about to give, I am joyful; and for what you will give me, I am hopeful, GOd. You are my confidence and my surety.
I also can’t forget to mention the people he placed on my journey to where I am and where I am headed. If I was to write out every reason, this interview and Shoutout would be never ending, but I would like mention a few people: Katherine Kopa (Casting director), Natalia Christabelle (Casting director), Eli Malizia (MUA), Bebe2Pretty (my sister), Alma and Amanda (my baby’s God family), Mz. Tonni and Kareem (Creative director and photographer), Winfrey Simmons (bessfren and creative), Rosalyn and all my model sisters, Jason MC and Jeremy C.(My runway coaches), Keke Simot and Dr. Sonja (Heads of Curvy Fashion Week and Mag), my cousin Dagan Wallace, and most of all, my moms 2.0 who never judged and kept it one hundred with me, Miss Virginia.
All of these people have a special place in my heart. They have pushed me in ways like no other live in my truth and have helped me grow into my authentic self. I thank you all of you! And for those whom I may have forgot to mention because it is so many of you, just know that I love and appreciate you all.
