Meet Breanna Adams: Personal Stylist & Fashion Aficionado

We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanna Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My love for fashion started at a very early age, far too early to pinpoint the exact moment, but my infatuation with collecting beautifully handcrafted purses from my family members travels from around the world catapulted something special – including my love for mini bags and everything stylish!
I decided to start my personal styling & shopping business BREANNA MARIE STYLING because I truly felt that there was a need for a custom styling service that was both luxurious and attainable to both women and men at a fabulous price point. I began with simply helping my friends find pieces to wear to events they were attending such as weddings and birthday parties, and helping my family members pull together looks for a new job, or a baby announcement photoshoot, and the list goes on! At first it was just something I was doing in my spare time to help my loved ones find the perfect outfits, but the more I got involved with the personal aspect of really getting to know my “clients” style and aesthetic, I set my sights on forming my business with the ultimate goal in mind of making women and men feel absolutely amazing and confident in the skin they’re in through personal style.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Fashion is my art and the way I express myself through what I wear defines who I am. I’m a firm believer that when you’re wearing something that makes you feel amazing and confident, you go through life in a meaningful way. I’ve always worn what I love and what makes me happy, not necessarily what’s always on trend which I believe sets myself and my style apart from others. I’m most proud of my brand that I’ve built that is BREANNA MARIE STYLING. My brand is me – it’s who I am. It’s bright, it’s effervescent, it’s effortless, it’s sometimes a little extra, but most importantly, my brand is true to me.
I started my personal styling business in December 2017 and it wasn’t the easiest in the beginning. I knew what I wanted to accomplish – helping women and men achieve effortless style – but I didn’t always know how to get there or how to promote my business. I started with taking photos of myself more frequently in my favorite outfits and posting them on Instagram, as well as giving insight to unique brands to shop, but sometimes I felt that my audience wouldn’t care what I had to say, or worse, would wonder why I thought I had the experience to tell them my opinion on fashion and style.
The more I came into my own and figured out who I was as a business woman and fashion aficionado, the rest was simple! Just be myself and let everything else fall into place…effortlessly (my favorite word can’t you tell?) I’ve learned that in order to create a significant presence online and with my clients I had to show up, show out, and be consistent in everything that I did in regard to my business. Whether that meant posting multiple times a week on Instagram, or making it a point to researching the top fashion trends every season, I always ensured that I was an expert in my craft.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is so good! My best friend and I attended Howard University in Washington, DC and she still lives there, so whenever she visits LA we explore so many parts of the city. I would say we start with brunch, every single day while she’s here! I love a good rooftop brunch venue like Perch LA or Skybar at the Mondrian and bottomless mimosas are always a must. Shopping at The Grove is also such a fun time with shops and restaurants galore. Hiking on Runyon Canyon for fresh air and beautiful scenery would also be on the itinerary. Dining at Ysabel in West Hollywood would make the list as well because whenever I dine there I feel like I’ve I’m in an entirely different city – the ambiance is unmatched. After dinner, we would have drinks at High Rooftop Lounge in Venice – it’s right on the beach and has all the good vibes. Dessert every day is imperative as well, especially from my favorite ice cream shop, Salt & Straw. Finally the Broad Museum in Downtown LA would have to make the list. It’s one of my favorite museums in LA with artwork ranging from Basquiat to Jeff Koons and has perfect Instagram moments. Essentially this trip would consist of eating, drinking, and sight seeing on repeat!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family definitely deserves a shoutout! They are always my biggest supporters from reading my monthly style newsletters, to supporting me with photography, to referring clients to me and beyond. My parents have always instilled in me that I really can do anything which has built me into the confident woman that I am today.
