We had the good fortune of connecting with Bre’jon Golden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bre’jon, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by a plethora of things but what inspires me most is my Jamaican heritage. My love for bright colors, music, movement and an appreciation for everything EXTRA definitely starts there. Aside from that I’m inspired everyday by little things…LA is full of vibrancy and there are so many different environments to wander, you never know what will spark inspiration at any given moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart in the super saturated world of styling is that I’m ME. Not to sound cliche’ but I have my own distinct perspective. My ethnicity, my upbringing, the exposure to various forms of the arts at a young age, my life journey is unique. I grew up an only child so I had no one around to make me second guess decisions about my future and what I wanted to do. I was always sure of my self. That same gusto is what got me into styling. It wasn’t easy and it still isn’t but I put in the work to do what I love and stack them coins while i’m at it!

I’ve overcome obstacles by learning from every single mistake. I spend alot of time reflecting on what I could have done better after every job and setting myself up for success the next go round. We’re not saving lives on set. In reality it’s all for fun and entertainment so I also have to be sure not to put to much stress on myself for human error but definitely do my best to prevent it. As long as I know I’m giving 100% I’m satisfied.

I’ve learned most about building and maintaining relationships. There are no friends in this industry only peers and acquaintances. I don’t say that in a negative sense I just mean that when you think people are your friend you tend to take their actions personal. When you can distinguish the two you can maintain healthy boundaries and refrain from getting your feelings hurt in certain situations.

I’d like the world to know that I will be among the best of the best at what I do. People I look up to now will be my peers because I’m obsessed with my craft. The work doesn’t stop once you get in your field you really have to keep at it. I’m styling whether i’m paid or not always setting up test shoots so that I can play with new ideas and exercise my creativity. I refuse to limit myself. Aside from styling I’d love to upcycle old furniture, maybe drop a mixtape (for fun of course), get in my acting/producing bag and continue building my loungewear empire. I’m a whole brand okay !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend wasn’t from LA…

As soon as they get off the plane we’re headed to South Central so we can get some Jerk Chicken from Peppers. Then we going downtown to the flower market so we can grab some eucalyptus for whatever shower is at their hotel and also go browse the fabric stores because all the inspo is downtown.

Throughout the week we’d hit Leimert Park (grab some sage, vegan eats, books) , Whatever Art Exhibits are open at the time, lunch at My2Cents on Pico, Have dinner at Marco Polo in Silverlake, or Kazu Nori. For shopping we’d hit Black On the Block/Black Market Flea (support Black creatives !!) do some yoga with WalkGoodLA at Kenneth Hahn Park. Obviously have to hit the beach at some point and do some bowling at Lucky Strike cause they wings and drinks slap and why not check out LA Live and the Staples Center or whatever they call it now… so much more to do but that’s all I can think of so far lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have given me all the natural abilities and confidence necessary to achieve success in anything I choose to do so shoutout to them !
