We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda King -Macias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had an entrepreneur mindset. I started my first business at the age of 21yrs old. Which is totally different from my current business venture. I always had the passion to grow and establish businesses. My thought process behind HotBox Burgers has always been if I don’t try it, I will never know if it will work out. So I take risk and listen to my intuition.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
HotBox Burgers is family owned and operated. What sets us apart is our restaurant is surrounded by big chain fast food restaurants serving processed food while we serve handmade quality fresh burgers made to order. What I am most proud of would be still standing and serving the community through all the challenges we have faced along the way, including the pandemic, to losing my brother Miguel, lacking employees to operate our family business, and betrayal from people we have helped along the way. The road to success isn’t always easy. I thank God for guiding me and teaching me the hardest lessons in life. I live and I learn but one thing I will never do is give up!

We want to be recognized for our service to our community. We are proud to be South LA residents. We want to inspire others in our community to believe in their dreams no matter where you come from. We also have a passion to give back to those less fortunate and therefore serve the homeless community hundreds of fresh meals monthly.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank God and my family. God has always been my main source. I pray when life is good and I pray when life is hard. I can testify that God has help me through it all. HotBox Burgers wouldn’t be what it is today without my family. We created Hotbox Burgers together. We wanted to provided our community with fresh quality food and make an impact by helping others along the way. My husband has always been my main supporter throughout everything. My daughters are also my motivation to keep going no matter what life throws at me, and without the love and support from my family we wouldn’t be where we are today.
