Meet Brenda Rios | Full time digital marketer & full time founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Rios and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been the stereotypical LA dog mom and right in the middle of the pandemic, I was really enjoying my time working from home. I could spend more time with my dog and new puppy. But I knew reality would soon be returning to the office, which I was not ready for.
I thought of ways of how to spend my time at home being with my dogs more and during a dinner with a friend we ended up talking about dog gear. I suddenly had the thought of how there wasn’t anything innovative being done with dog gear when I suddenly had the idea to look into more eco-friendly options.
I had found that many of the top dog gear brands all used new materials and almost none were using recycled materials. That’s where I got the idea to start Studio Tails. I didn’t just want it to be another dog gear brand, but a brand that’s eco-friendly and one that gives back.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve always known that for me to be happy, I’d have to work for myself. Before Studio Tails, I sold clothing online but it didn’t make me happy knowing it was fast fashion and would have an environmental affect. I wanted to structure Studio Tails to be as eco-friendly as possible.
Since I had a background in working in fashion ecommerce, I knew how I would want the packaging, shipping, and products to be. Our hangtags are from kraft material, our gear is made from recycled plastic webbing, we ship neutral and even give back 10% of all sales.
I’ve always believed that no matter the business size, giving back a little will go a long way. Every quarter, Studio Tails donates 10% from its sales to conservation and animal rescue groups.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love all of LA from Little Tokyo to the South Bay. For breakfast, we’d start at Zinc Cafe in the Arts District for their chilaquiles. We can walk around a little to check out the cute shops nearby. As we get hungry walking around and shopping, we’d hit up Bottega Louie for some pasta and pizza.
To burn more calories and to make room for dinner later, I’d take us to Abbot Kinney for more shopping and a midday coffee at Cha Cha Matcha. After spending hours shopping and walking over to Venice Beach it’s time for dinner!
This means KBBQ and of course it has to be in Koreatown! With so many options we settle at Quarters Korean BBQ for the amazing food, ambiance, and drinks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have to give a shoutout to my mom. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit even in middle school. She helped me buy wholesale jewelry from downtown LA for me to resell. I feel like I always have ideas of new business ideas and she’s never once turned any of them down. She’s always been there supporting me and helping me jumpstart Studio Tails.
