Meet Brendan Garis | Photographer & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brendan Garis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brendan, what do you attribute your success to?
I think simply just being a good person to everyone. Nobody wants to work with someone who clearly doesn’t have good intentions or comes off rude. I try to be nice to everyone I meet and it’s subconsciously taken me farther than I planned, whether that’s in my business or personal life. Being nice should be a non negotiable for everyone in my opinion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what has set me apart is my ability to be candid and human with everyone I work with. It never feels like a photoshoot or a job really. It’s mind blowing how seamless shoots can be when it’s free flowing and low stress when you come back to the ground and just conversate like humans. I would say I’m most proud of that and I’m most excited about how fast my life is changing with my work and personal life. I recently moved to San Diego and have been shooting Saint Luna band while living with them, so that’s been extremely fun. I want the world to see what’s happening in my everyday life through my stories aside from my work because it shows that I’m human and do so many different things outside of taking photos.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would for sure recommend pacific bean for coffee in pacific beach. Nico’s fish market for some really good seafood and shore club for a fun night out. I also love watching the sunset at law street beach at the grass area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A huge part of everything I am is thanks to my family 100%. My Mom & Dad, my brother, my grandparents, cousins, aunt & uncles. They’ve all supported me in everything I’ve ever done and I really don’t know where I’d be without any of them. My dad taught me from a young age how to do things myself and how to keep pushing when I didn’t feel like it. My mom taught me kindness and hard work along with not taking no for an answer. My brother taught me that nobody can mess with me besides him lol. All of them allowed me to speak my mind and be vulnerable when the world doesn’t promote that very much and I owe everything to them for that.
