We had the good fortune of connecting with Brent Nowak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brent, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Shine A Light’s Continuity Case Management program provides invaluable support and resources to individuals facing substance use disorder and homelessness. By offering personalized case management, they assist in navigating the complexities of recovery and homelessness, helping individuals access essential services such as housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Additionally, by fostering connections within the recovery community, Shine A Light creates a supportive network that empowers individuals to sustain their recovery journey and build a better life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the Engagement Liaison for The Shine A Light Foundation in Las Vegas Nevada. We are a non-profit who ventures into the flood channels to cultivate a relationship with those living underground in hopes of offering them a way out. I have worked in the Behavioral Health Industry for close to 3 years. I believe my most valuable asset to the community we serve is my lived experience. As someone who was in active addiction for over 2 decades, and homeless all across the country, I bring a different perspective to those we help. I have spent almost my entire adult life causing destruction in everything I do. I can know say that I am proud of the man I have become. It is my greatest desire to help others achieve their goals, and clean up the wreckage of their past.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite area of town would be the Art District, and Downtown Las Vegas. There are many different restaurants, shops & boutiques to spend time exploring. The great thing about this city is you can walk around the same neighborhood many times and always find something new!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out the entire Recovery Community in Las Vegas, but especially the men and women from The Samaritan House, The Freedom House, Crossroads of Southern Nevada, and The Shine A Light Foundation. I also need to thank a very dear friend of mine who has walked me through not only the beginning of my recovery journey, but has always been a stable rock in my continued sobriety. Thank you “Butters”. Lastly, the individuals closest to me at work have afforded me the space to grow as man, help others, and are constantly pushing me to be the best version of myself…I love you all
