We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, what do you attribute your success to?
PERSEVERANCE. Carrying on and pushing forward in the face of any obstacle. This is the most vital factor in my success. No matter the setback. No matter the rejection. No matter the challenge. Always, always, get back up and back in the game. Never give up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve tirelessly built my brand to be the science fiction and horror go-to writer. After accidentally watching “Night of the Living Dead” at age 7, I couldn’t sleep for a week. But then something shifted. I realized I could be absolutely terrified, yet be completely safe. It became the catalyst for a lifetime of storytelling, as I began writing tales of aliens, vampires, and monsters shortly after.

Although the entertainment industry is a brutally tough business and seemingly impossible to break into, I believe the Internet has ushered in a golden age of opportunity- for writers who learn how to utilize it.
I attribute every major success I’ve had to social media.
My publisher, Black Rose Writing, released all 3 of my nanotech sci-fi trilogy, MECHCRAFT, in 2021.
I landed my first screenwriting job in April 2021- a sci-fi pilot titled, FINCH & SKULL.
And now my 2nd screenwriting job in January 2022. I’m incredibly excited for this sci-fi feature film because filming begins on May 21, 2022.
These successes didn’t come overnight. Even though I’ve been writing stories since age 7, I didn’t get serious about  pursuing a writing career until about 15 years ago. 15 years at this. Writing success is a marathon, and absolutely requires perseverance. Actually, it requires HOPE and PERSEVERANCE.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I take the drive 45 minutes north into LA/Hollywood, I love nostalgic dining. The classics- Pink’s Chili Dogs, Canter’s Deli, or the amazing Farmers Market. For entertainment we’re going to check out live music at The Roxy, Whiskey-A-Go-Go, or Viper Room. Maybe browse the aisles at Book Soup (they carry the Mechcraft books in-store). Or head a bit south and check out the cool vibe at Venice Beach, or grab some fresh crab at the Redondo Beach pier.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely want to give a Shoutout to 2-time Emmy winning producer, Ana Benitez for her years of guidance and support. She and her husband, Ron Karasz, own Storyrocket- a site that connects writers with agents and producers.

Also want to Shoutout actress/writer/producer, Gina Nemo. We’ve now teamed up twice on cool sci-fi projects- one pilot, and one feature- and our process works so well for us. We get shit done! And I am grateful to her for giving me a shot.

Lastly, giving a shoutout to Facebook group and Youtube channel, SCRIPTFELLA. Created and operated by screenwriter and script consultant, Dominic Morgan, the group is dedicated to supporting and lifting up screenwriters as well as navigating the entertainment business.
