We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Britney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, the process of starting my own business was simple. At first it wasn’t particularly about starting a business. As I’ve been a freelance costume designer and stylist for about 5 years now, I’ve come to realize that this industry is a difficult one to maintain a living in. As far as I can remember, I’ve always been obsessed with different styles, clothing and a great bargain. Growing up reading Seventeen magazines, cutting out coupons for a tote bag I really wanted and fighting to be first in line for said tote bag are memories I hold dear to me, and memories i believe shaped me. As such, I wanted to create and style more, to show others what can be achieved even without a large budget. This is what influenced me to start my business around thrifting and why I’m currently working on curating a selling brand that compliments the essence of my styling brand well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a freelance costume designer, stylist and content creator. Clothes are more than a passion, they’re my life’s obsession. I’ve been fortunate to work in theater. commercials, and on film projects over the course of my career and therefore have styled everything from sleek high-end looks to creative minimalist dance pieces. Having so many diverse experiences in my work life has been thrilling and it is what I’m most proud of thus far. Freelancing comes with various challenges and the undulation of work can be hard to keep up with. Its the reason why I took my artistic pursuits to the internet and started my thrift styling Instagram. I just had all these styling and fashion ideas in my head and I just wanted a space for those ideas.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think the coolest thing about LA is that it feels like both city and forest. You’re never too far from a hike and that’s where I’d start if I were showing off LA to a best friend. In the morning, we’d hike Los Liones trail in Malibu then go to the Blue Daisy in Santa Monica for breakfast afterwards. Later that day, we’d run around the fashion district in LA and go to Grand Central Market for dinner. To me that kind of day encompasses the beauty of LA, pockets of nature surrounding a big city life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a big shout out to my aunt who raised me as her own. My aunt was the first person to put a sewing needle in my hand which sparked an interest in making clothes in me. When my cousin (her daughter) and I were growing up we watched her sew projects for those in her community. She would also sew my cousin and I matching dress for every holiday church event. She was always so talented and kind.
