We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Charlotte Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany Charlotte, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As a Macedonian-Canadian girl who didn’t always enjoy school, I would force my friends to learn the lyrics to Spice Girls songs and perform them with choreographed dance moves at recess. That 15-minute school yard concert was something I looked forward to everyday. It’s a feeling that is still with me. I’ve come to understand that I love being able to express myself through stories and characters. It’s always different, it’s always challenging, and you always learn something new about yourself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have previously performed in musicals across Canada, on The Second City stage in Toronto as part of their House Company, and been in several commercial campaigns, films and tv shows.

Since moving to Los Angeles my schedule changes all the time, but it usually ranges from auditions, acting classes, filming on set, performing improv, writing with my creative partners at Monday Morning Media, among other collaborations with different artists on new projects.

I am particularly excited about two projects I shot recently that will be coming out next year! One is a film with Disney+ directed by Alberto Belli, and the other is a romantic film directed by Alpha Nicky Mulowa, both who have been a pleasure to work with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I’m a Virgo, so if I had a friend visiting and needed to plan a weeklong trip… There would definitely be some sort of schedule, and it would look like this:

Monday
-Head to the beach in Santa Monica
-Take a stroll on Abbot Kinney and hit up The Butchers Daughter for a late lunch.
-Photo op at The Hollywood sign (If they’ve never been to LA, you have to show them the sign, right?)
-Dinner at The Silverlake House

Tuesday
-Universal Studios (it’s less crowded on a weekday and equally magical)
-For dinner, Terroni (A Toronto favorite now in LA!) on Beverly

Wednesday
-Hike in Griffiths Park
-Grab some matcha latte’s at Alfred’s or Muddy Paws
-Dinner at Olivia Restaurant in Koreatown. It’s SO good. Fried Olives?! Order them.

Thursday
-Grab a morning açai bowl at Backyard Bowls
-LACMA, I could literally spend all day listening to audio descriptions of paintings or art pieces.
-Dinner at Crossroads on Melrose. I love this restaurant. Try the spicy rigatoni!

Friday
-The Getty (seriously, I could spend all day in a museum. I wasn’t lying.)
-Dinner at Gracias Madre in West Hollywood

Saturday
-Brunch at Jewel in Silverlake
-A live show of some description, The Groundlings, a comedy club, or improvised Shakespeare!
-Midnight snack at California Donuts

Sunday
-Food at Smorgasburg in DTLA and thrifting at Melrose Trading Post for sure.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I’d love to give a professional shout out to my acting coaches and mentors: Suzanne Bastien, Douglas NyBack, John Riven, and my amazing rep at OAZ Inc, Larissa Giroux – just to name a few. Without their support and guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

My family and friends, who always cheer me on, ground me and make me laugh.

Lastly, I’d like to shout out my incredible husband for his unconditional love. Everyday I’m thankful for you.
