We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Melendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I moved to LA with no plan for what I was going to/wanted to do, I just knew I wanted to do the cliche thing and start fresh. I moved in with my childhood best friend who built a multipurpose rehearsal studio in the garage for the absorbent amount of bands and musicians he played with and I was all the sudden immersed with so many different musicians, educators and of course, a couple actors and suddenly I was connecting and conversating with people from worlds I understood all to well from the different walks of life I had encountered all before moving to LA, just hadn’t been exposed to in quite sometime. From there I met even more people through shows or friends of friends and got crazy job opportunities within my first 2 weeks in LA and the vision became clearer. I am meant to help manage creatives careers while helping facilitate the the process, no matter what that looks like. Film, TV, Music, Actors, producers etc….I just wanted to be in ALL of it. So thats how Brittany Melendez…Manager was born! Now I work with the one of tee greatest queer fronted and hottest bands coming out of LA right now. And be on the front lines with my dearest friend as we start a non profit to connect and collaborate with each other without the worry of not being too main stream.

What should our readers know about your business?
In business I can say i’m different then most in one very simple way…I am not a “business” person! I am a human being who can discuss and facilitate different areas of business in a respectful, lets get this done matter. and there is a differenc, i have learned! Approaching things not as I am trying to sell you on anything but as I am gonna give you cold hard facts of why this band, solo artist, instrumentalist, or performer is the right person for this job or role you’re trying to fill, and here is how I will make sure we all feel secure and right in this creative journey together. I have been told a few times the way i approach things is “refreshing”. Not everyone i have encountered feels this way especially people who have been doing this a long time or a venue owner who is very jaded in their LA lifestyle. (iykyk) so when they see me..a loud, very clearly neuro spicy, fat and now disabled person coming up to them to “make shit happen” its a vibe you are either with it or you are so against it hahaha. And I would get really down and fall into the gutters of despair when i wouldnt connect with someone or i was very clearly written off but the simple fact of being a woman or whatever else they dont appreciate in their world, I had to learn quick in your confidence and standing your ground and believing in what you are saying or trying to do is the best and most necessary thing to do. being human is the brand and we either stan or find the ones who wanna stan.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
ooo fun! We’d spend a lot of time exploring the westside. Doing the path from venice to santa monica checking out the street performers, shops and food stands a long the way. see if there is any music going on in santa monixa while we are down there. Harvelles in particular is home base for a lot of people i have met on this journey so would have to take them by to say hi to the owner damian . go to hollywood and check out bettle house and of course….go see the hollywood stars and sign. I am a valley girl so for tapas and good vibes i would do black market liquor bar in studio city, OR for a more upbeat vibe jalapeno petes! check out Mofongos for some PR food. the only place to do so in LA! do a real beach day somewhere pretty and easy like will rogers in pacific palasides, or el matador further up the PCH. so much!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I got a couple. Brandon, for lots of things but specifically the idea to move out here. Lena, for having an idea so in line with my values and bringing me on to help make Circadian Haus a reality. The post house industry and the friends turned family it brought me, KingQueen, Westside fam, my family and have to shout Michael Schur, Greg Daniels, Justin Spitzer and Issa Rae. I don’t know any of them personally but they created and produced a lot of television that gives me an insane amount of comfort that has gotten me through the bullshit to be at this point.
