Meet Brittany Veney | Brand + Website Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Veney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habits that have helped me to succeed thus far are consistency, setting boundaries, networking and simply asking questions.
Being consistent, in my opinion, means me showing up every day no matter what and giving it my all.
Setting boundaries means that I have happily said “NO!” to anything that does not fulfill me and bring me joy. It means that I am serving from my saucer and not my cup. It means that I am taking care of me.
Networking is one of my favorite things to do! I believe in collaboration over competition and sharing opportunities with others because so many have done so for me. The saying “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” is true! At least in my experience it is.
I always say, “You have not because you ask not!” As an entrepreneur, I had to learn to not only ask a lot of questions to educate myself and to grow, but to also gain opportunities that may not have been awarded to me had I chose to stay silent.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a brand and website designer, I have the pleasure of bringing my clients ideas to life. I take pride in creating custom designs that are not just aesthetically pleasing, but that entrepreneurs can leverage. I earned a bachelors degree in law and a masters in public administration, but art and creativity have always been my muse. I lived a very conventional life until realizing how dissatisfied I was. I had gone to school, gotten married, started a family and worked a 9-5 until becoming a stay-at-home mom. That’s when I realized that it was time to do life differently. I deserved to live life on my terms and now, as a single, mompreneur, I’m happy to say that I am. It’s not always easy taking risks, but it’s a lot easier than continuing to live a life that doesn’t fulfill you. I have to give credit to my therapist for encouraging me to stop playing it safe. Along the way, I learned to stop caring about the opinion of others, to be intentional about everything that I do, and to simply enjoy all that life has to offer. One of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned is to give myself grace. As long as I show up powerfully every day as the best mom, the best entrepreneur, and the best me that I can be, I’ve done a great job! My wish is for everyone to see their own potential and to know that they can start life over. It’s possible to wake up one day and decide to do life differently. It’s possible to go to school for one thing and then teach yourself a completely different trade! It’s possible to love after heartbreak. It’s possible to be happy and fulfilled.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a Disney fanatic, so bestie and I would head straight to Disney Land! After getting our Minnie ears, we’d spend a day at the Santa Monica Pier, enjoy the views and eat a few lobster rolls. Bestie loves margaritas so we’d have to visit Salsa and Beer in NOHO. The next day would be a beach day at Malibu Beach. Sunday Funday is of course brunch and although there’s so many great places to choose from, The Serving Spoon in Inglewood is a great option. Then of course, we need a day to visit the Hollywood sign, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and eat a double-double burger and animal style fries from In-N-out!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
JJ McQueen has been instrumental in much of my success as an entrepreneur. As busy as he is as an award-winning photo-journalist, husband and father, he has always had the time to mentor me and share his knowledge of business as well as his network.
He’d say “keep your head on a swivel” and I do. Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart and I take that piece of advice with me everywhere I go.
