Meet Brittny Button | Interior Designer & Real Estate Investor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittny Button and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been interested in building, architecture and design and opening my own interior design firm felt like it was a natural progression of this. Especially since it’s something that I love to do and enjoy the process of transforming spaces. Similarly, opening a Button Atelier shop at the Agoura Antique Mart, was a dream come true! It features many of my vintage furniture finds from over the years, many with refreshed upholstery updates and intriguing decorative accessories.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My design aesthetic is rooted in Old World European Classicism and have always adored Spanish architecture and Art Deco inspired furniture. Fortunately, my past projects have been featured in: Architectural Digest, Vogue Living, Homes & Gardens, Living etc. to name a few. I’m so appreciative of this recognition as it’s a real joy to design these spaces and create livable environments. Challenge wise, finding the right onsite team with a project manager, contractor and subcontractors that get the vision and are in sync can be rare to find. I’ve realized, if you’re not on the same page, it’s better to walk away as the end result won’t be worth it. With Button Atelier it’s truly an evolving ‘workshop’ or ‘studio’ besides just being an interior design firm with many exciting projects in the works that will be live before year’s end.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Pacific Design Center LA, is a must to discover what’s new for home. The playground at Malibu Country Mart is fun! My kids have a ball there and we usually grab some lunch at one of the restaurants. I always pop into CB2 Design Shop in Malibu to see what’s new! Soho house and Nobu in the same vicinity are great spots to unwind with friends; although this area, much like parts of LA, are forever changed due to the devastation of the fires. My heart is broken for those families and businesses that have been affected. I’m offering free and reduced rates on my design services to those who have suffered this monumental loss.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up both my father and mother were into collecting antiques and obsessed with the different architectural eras. Art Deco was one of their favorites and became mine too! Going to flea markets and estate sales with them helped me develop my artistic eye. It’s fun to hunt and find the perfect furniture piece even if it needs new upholstery, it’s the process of re envisioning items in a new way. It’s truly a great love of mine and I’ve been acquiring vintage pieces over my entire life. In fact, when I was in high school I scored a gorgeous vintage chandelier and mirror which I had in my bedroom. This was how the fascination with reclaimed items began. For the past ten years, my husband Jenson Button has always been a real support, by giving me total creative freedom with home renovations we work on. It’s his belief in my design sense that has given me real confidence to continue to grow the business. Plus, my daughter Lenny who’s four, recently commented that she wants to design houses like her Mama! How sweet is that?
