We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan The Savage and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bryan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose this career because I wanted to have a human based connection with how I influenced the world. Makeup means empowering and influencing perception. It’s a big honor and power to paint faces. Beyond professional success, the ability to instill and embolden self confidence is a reward not many get to see directly from their work. I am in a constant frenzy to perfect my craft, stay relevant, and push the narrative of what is beauty.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional makeup artist. The majority of my resume is beauty and TV/film work. I am forever impressed by the sets and projects I’ve had the honor of working on. Having grown up Idaho, it’s with gratitude that I express that awe. I am also in awe because to me all I’m doing is painting faces. I love enhancing beauty and natural features. I enjoy the challenge that is full glam and the equal challenge that is undetectable enhancement. Makeup requires adaptation and through this work I have grown a lot professionally. It’s a constant process of redevelopment, rebranding, and personal evolution. My brand is ever growing. I feel that I’m an artist and talent that might never feel fully developed but I trust that through my development, inspiration can be fostered through those that choose to be part of the ride.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely adore curating the experience for the particular person but for me I love fitness and being active. Hiking is the best for getting in a quick burn but also to cut the small talk; when you’re huffing and puffing, conversation just flows different. If they’re more advanced fitness wise, maybe a class at Heated Room. I love Tocaya Oganica for a post workout meal. Other favorite spots are 3rd Street Dance for a fun dance class or boot camp. I love experiencing new things too so just googling what’s around would always lead to a fun adventure. Another spot I have been dying to go experience is The Woods in WeHo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to sing praise to the first makeup mentor I ever had, the amazing Priscilla Ono. I took her makeup course in October of 2019. I learned everything and more at that course. I learned core technique I use on every single client and face I paint to this day. I still repeat wisdom she said about business in my head when stress arises. She showed me beyond painting; the grit that is necessary to make a name and build a brand in this industry. She is a shining example of perseverance, authenticity, and uniqueness which sings throughout her brand and identity. I am so lucky to have learned from one of the best! I am forever grateful and forever cognizant of the unmeasurable impact this icon and pioneer has had on my life.
