We had the good fortune of connecting with Callie Rekas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Callie, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Indiana and I’ve found that my “Midwest nice” comes with me everywhere and is somewhat unique in LA. I always resisted the idea that being raised in Indiana had any real effect on me growing up, but once I moved I realized it definitely did. I’m actually thankful to have grown up in a small town now, and I like when LA natives tell me they knew from talking to me that I wasn’t raised in the city. It makes me feel connected to my roots, and I also really believe that being known as the friendly, helpful person will always help you get ahead.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My first love is ballet, which evolved to musical theatre, which then evolved to acting of any kind. I got my BA in Theatre & Drama from Indiana University and then moved to LA after I graduated. I didn’t start modeling until I came to LA, but I love it because it combines the storytelling elements of both dance and acting. You have to tell a story with your body and your face, fully embody a persona; a photo may be still, but modeling is a very active process. I’ve also been teaching dance and choreographing for years now, and it’s probably my favorite creative outlet. I have never been able to listen to a piece of music without seeing a full dance in my head, so it’s really fun when I can bring that to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My absolute must-dos: -See a movie at the dine-in theatre in Marina del Rey -Drinks at The Woodman -Shopping/snacking at Melrose Trading Post -Swimming at Zuma Beach -Disneyland, of course!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Sampul Dance Academy! I love teaching there and the owner, Samantha, has done an amazing job keeping spirits up and classes running during the pandemic.
