Meet Cam Wilson | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cam, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Fairfield, CA, it’s a small town on the edge of the Bay Area about 40 minutes from San Francisco. I think growing up in a smaller town, with less things to do always pushed me to look for creative outlets to fill my time a lot more. Also growing up in such a diverse area I was lucky to be so exposed to so many people and cultures, it helped mold the lens I see the world in now.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a mix of elegance, traditional tailoring, melded together in a world of colors, and prints. I think the thing that sets me apart from other designers is the playful energy I design with, I push boundaries in menswear, whether that be in form of silhouettes, or the way I layer multiple prints and colors together.
My road to where I’m at professionally has definitely not been easy, I started fashion late so I have had to work hard to adapt my skills and catch up with my peers in the industry. Always looking for advice from people more experienced than me, and always pushing myself to enhance my design further, while I feel like I’m still at the beginning of where I can be, the progress has been pretty quick.
I think all these things show in my brand, my pieces tell a story of someone that craves to break themselves out of the mold. They’re comfortable in who they are and are willing to go out and be the person whose outfit is colorful in a world that can sometimes be overly grey. I want the things I make to serve as inspiration, at the end of the day, fashion supposed to be fun.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love living in LA, there’s so much to do in the city, I love to have friends come visit me. If I had to plan out a week, the most important and fun things to see are, first, check out the Broad, and the MOCA, my two favorite museums in town. Then, make your way to Little Tokyo to enjoy the restaurants and the markets. I love to walk through the fashion district and Santee Alley on weekends, it’s always packed and it’s the perfect place to shop and find some cool knick knacks in the city. Lastly, I have to make sure we try my three favorite places to eat, Maccheroni Republic, Villa’s taco’s in Grand Central Market, and Dune.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people that have had a huge part in the successes I’ve had, but I would love to give a special shoutout to my little brother Tyler. From helping photograph my shoots for my brand, to sourcing accessories I can use, to even sending me ideas he comes across, I wouldn’t be able to make it through half of these things without him.
