We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Jeong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew up with a very business driven family and grew to realize that if I wanted to reach the goals and life I had in mind for myself, I was going to have to create my own path. I like many other artists and creatives – work, pray and hope for my passions to become a platform to build success on and make a comfortable living. The more I learned about the entertainment business and music industry I knew that I wanted to be the one to build the blueprint to my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I am most passionate about creating through my music is the marriage between science, healing, senses and movement – all through music. I’ve been exploring meditative instruments and incorporating them in my writing process which gives meditative music a whole new look and feel. I love learn about the organic and traditional ways that certain instruments used for meditation and healing to then build around that sound and feeling. I wrote my song ‘Chrysalis’ with sound bowls and my band at the time, and to this day it is what I am most proud of. Being able to bring in the healing aspect with the bowls, engaging the senses with melodies and lyrics and the band laying down a groove that invites you to move freely. This is what I I am most excited to continue to explore and create. Nevertheless, with this passion and realization also comes many visuals that I am also thrilled to execute once that time comes.

Getting to where I am today professionally has not been easy. I started releasing and performing original music just a few weeks after my father passed and had just submitted my LLC paperwork. It’s been difficult to navigate grief whilst simultaneously experiencing growth in my career as an artist and performing in major cities which is what I have always dreamt of. I continue to be redirected and challenged in this career and that is how I continue to learn and evolve through this process of experiencing life and channeling those lessons and feelings through my art. I believe that allowing the space to truly feel and not live according to any other agenda but my own has helped me find peace and opportunity in the unknown no matter how scary it my feel.

I hope for the world to know me as a driven woman that has been paving her own path from a young age and despite the hardships she continues to show up an explore the possibilities of creating and sharing music that heals and creates a space for people to feel and envision themselves in the best way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places to go are the ones nature has provided for us. As much as I love to host I also love to create memories with my loved ones. I love the exploring the trails of Camelback Mountain, South Mountain, Echo Canyon, Papago Park but also love going to Saguaro Lake, or Fossil Creek to be around the little bit of water we have in the desert. We would pack a little picnic with yummy snacks, food and beverages as well as some incense and a speaker for the vibes. We would take a couple trips around the state – I’d show my hometown on the border of Arizona and Mexico, indulge in my favorite tacos and Sonoran hotdogs, visit ranch I grew up going to with all the horses and beautiful landscape. I also love going up north to the mountains with all the pine trees or even Sedona with all the vortex and red rocks.

If I were to plan a night out I would definitely opt to go to a friends show (since all my friends are such incredible and talented beings always active in the scene) grabbing some drinks after then going with the flow. If you’re in town on a Thursday night best believe we are going to Jazz Jam at Cornish Pasty downtown then playing pool and darts when/if the vibes switch up. Century Grand is also always a fun and curated experience that transports you to a whole other world (which I love) and also Tell Your Friends is similar in the sense that its speakeasy and Gatsby vibes. If the vibes are to dance we would hit Club Contact or Valley Bar on a night with a stacked lineup of DJs or maybe even Stardust and indulge in a game or two of pinball.

I love showing people my favorite local spots like
Luana’s Coffee & Beer
A Flour Shop,
Central Records,
Elvira’s
The Churchill,
Palabra,
Earth Plant Based Cuisine,
The Pemberton,
Famé,
The Womack,
Fair Trade – just to name a few.

Arizona also has some interesting spots like like the Musical Instrument Museum, Japanese Friendship Garden, OdySea Aquarium , The Desert Botanical Garden, Biosphere 2 . Of course we would have to hit up a couple of vintage, antique and thrift spots like Call it new/ Cal it Antique, Wangs Vintage, Camelback Antiques, Brass Armadillo, King Pigeon, Reclectic
If it’s flea season we would go to Pickers Playground, Melrose Vintage, Flipside Flea

If we are feeling artsy I would encourage taking a pottery class at Pip & Clay or maybe plan a day of Art in the Park (if it’s not too hot) , crochet/jewelry making and a movie or yap session. There’s lots of open mics to perform at if anyone feels called to it – Linger Longer, Yucca Taproom, Santan Gardens , there’s plenty of spaces to put yourself out there which I appreciate and think is awesome.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel blessed and grateful to say that every stage of my life has lead me to incredible opportunities and experiences that have brought me to where I am today – however I would like to shoutout my parents for raising and supporting me to be open to those opportunities and experiences throughout my entire life. My parents have always allowed me to explore my creative self whenever I asked for dance lessons, piano and vocal lessons, art classes etc. – they were happy to let me discover my passions. Both my parents had worked from a young age and they were role models for me to look up to when I thought about putting in the work to live my dream life. When I had taken a year off from studying at Arizona State University I contemplated going back to school and naturally this worried my parents but when an opportunity presented itself to change my major to music, they continued to show their support by their willingness to invest in the education and tools I felt I needed in order to build a successful creative career. My father was an entrepreneur and showed up for his company and business everyday. He was his own boss, had an incredible longtime business partner and yet he would excel everyday and put his all into his work and clients because providing the best he could to everyone was important to him. He taught me that regardless of where I am in life, as long as I am putting my best foot forward and putting in the work then everything will fall into its place when it is meant to. My mom has been such a strong and fierce woman, after losing my dad recently she has continued to reassure me in her support and care for my artistry even when sometimes its worrisome on how promising it looks, she still believes in my drive and art to lead me to success and I cannot be more grateful. Without their open hearts and willingness to allow me to explore the arts, I would not have lived the life I have and would not be who I am today.
