We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Valencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camille, what principle do you value most?
Authenticity and gratitude are the principles that matter most to me. I’ve been in the entertainment industry since I was twelve. I have gotten lost in wanting to become and be what people ask of me, even if that’s not who I am. I’ve come to realize that when I fake things with others, I am being fake with myself about how I truly feel about myself and life. I strive to ensure that my words and actions align with what feels true. Because being authentic with other people allows me to be real and authentic with myself. Gratitude helps me to be positive in almost all situations and just appreciate life and the now. These two principles are some of the things that help me stay grounded and motivated.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m still in the beginning stages of my career and figuring out who I am as a creative. Although, I’m most proud of my most recent project “Love Goes”. It’s the first project that I had created and seen come to fruition where I was able to collaborate with other artists. It was definitely not easy, it was a learning experience at every step. The role called me to be a producer, director, actor, AD, and so much more. We were also pressed for time because the day after our final shoot date, I had a flight to Paris and I was not going to change the schedule because I intended for this to happen no matter what. I was grateful to have a crew behind me to help me along the process of figuring things out. They helped me to stay on top of things and held me accountable and were also compassionate with me when certain things did not play out as we would’ve hoped for. I’ve learned how to better prepare for upcoming projects and what will help my crew out next time. I learned what it feels like to act in a project that you’re acting in and how to wear multiple hats on set. What I want the world to know about my brand/story is that they can find comfort and feel held by the projects that I do. I hope to reach their hearts and impact them the way my stories have impacted me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Firstly, I’d probably give them a day to rest. There’ll be a week’s worth of things to do anyway.

For places to eat, I’d bring them to Jollibee or Kasama for some Filipino cuisines. Shake Shack and Lou Malnati’s are one of my favorite Chicago staples. For some of my other favorite Asian cuisines Chi cafe or Kyuramen.

I like to do things that are memorable and feed the inner child, so I’d bring them to the Wndr museum or the color factory.

If they’re up to it, maybe an improv class at the second city or a dance class at the Puzzle box dance studio or Indie Media Studios.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are way too many people, groups, etc. that I am so grateful for that have helped me in my journey. My mom, Anne Valencia – Was actually the one who made me start my acting career. She said that acting could help push my singing career. She’s supported me the most out of all my family members. She’s looked into classes, articles, and anything she can to help me further in my career as an actress.
Tina Ugaban, Fiorella Colman, Erica Agudelo, Jana Manalo, and Julius Mendiola- my close group of friends, when I felt like I wasn’t good enough, they always lift me up. They remind me of my value, not only as an artist but as a person.
Jon Ayabe – for being one of my friends that remind me to follow my creative passions and hold me accountable to pull through with them.
John Casablancas for getting me started.
Lilys Talent and DeSantis Talent for seeing my potential and believing in me to this day.
