We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Waldorf and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camille, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever had was to accept my journey ahead and let people who were toxic or abusive from my life. It’s important who has access to you and that the love you give is reciprocated
I was in college at thirteen, & I was accepted to my second college the Art Institute of San Fransico. I had to leave my home and family to pursue my work as a fine art painter, ballet dancer, actress, model, and horse owner.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud of my music album called Wall Space back in March. As a fine art painter, I storyboard my music videos, produce, & edit them. I write and compose all my music unless I get the opportunity to work with other musicians or producers from time to time. Aside from gallery shows for my fine art paintings, I have a book on 20 years of my fine artwork called Unframed, & an e-commerce store under camillewaldorf.com. I got where I am today with a very disciplined background as an equestrian vaulter & ballet dancer. These practices helped me take what I was feeling and put it into movement and growth mentally and emotionally. I lost my mom at 9 years old so I had to find a way to manage my emotions and pain and not allow it to take me down the wrong path or hang out with the wrong crowd. I put my work before social relationships. I learned how the closest people around you can be the ones to hurt you, steal from you, or use your kindness as a weakness and try to destroy you the most. There will be few people in life you can truly depend on and trust. I have learned to forge ahead no matter what even if that means to stand up for my truth. What I want the world to know about my brand and story. I make art from the hard things I have experienced and find what is beautiful to create that as my reality. I am a survivor of many things and art, music, dance, & paintings can shift us from the dark into the light. I love that process and kids need to have these art forms protected for a safe environment to heal and grow in life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places in Los Angeles to visit if I was showing a friend from out of town. I love going for a walk in Griffith Park. Off Fern Dell, there is a little cafe with great Chi Tea and coffee, pie, and food. Grate spot to go before heading up the hill to walk up to the observatory. The view over the city once you walk up is stunning. I love to go to Beachwood Canyon and walk the stairs it’s a beautiful magical walk. There is also the Beachwood Cafe and a little market with a deli there. I like to go to the Beverly Wishire Hotel for dinner and atmosphere in Beverly Hills, and then walk around for some shopping and coffee. I would go to Venice Blv. and walk along the beach or rent some bikes for a bike ride on the ocean. Then head to Abbet Kenny Street for some food or shopping. There is a new Pizza Girl Pizza House that just opened up so I’d stop there. I would make sure to go to the Sunset Plazza or stop at the Ivy on Roberston for a late lunch or brunch. I like the Rosevelt or Beverly Hills Hotel for night spots. I would take them to a music show at the Viper Room, Whiskey a Go Go, or Rainbow Room for a bit of a Sunset Blvd vibe. But honestly, there are so many great restaurants from Toi to Avra, the rooftop Beverly Hills, just too many to mention.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout-out to Bruno Wizard. My godfather in London believed in my work and mentored me for years with my art and music. Introducing me to some of my closest friends today and projects that forever changed my life. Bruno is a singer-songwriter-musician of the band The Homosexuals and there is a great film about his life the heart of Bruno Wizard. I think it would inspire anyone who watches it.
