Meet Canaan Dewey | Actor, Designer & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Canaan Dewey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Canaan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own businesses was to have the creative freedom that comes with owning a business. I wanted to be able to make decisions that would directly impact the success of my business and have the opportunity to have creative control of my destiny. I also wanted to challenge myself and try something new. I had been working as a freelancer for many years and wanted to take my skills and knowledge to the next level.
I started CANAANWEAR as a way to let my creativity flow and to express my ideas and vision through clothing. My goal was to create edgy, vibrate pieces of clothing that would stand out from the usual streetwear styles. I wanted to create something that felt unique and special. I also wanted to give back and create a business that was conscious and socially responsible.
GENTLEMN Co.™ was born out of a desire to help men live healthier and more balanced lives. I had a passion for health and wellness and wanted to create a business that offered natural supplements, free articles and self-help books. I wanted to provide men with the tools they needed to live their best lives.
My thought process behind starting my own businesses was fueled by my passion for creativity, health, and wellness. I wanted to create something that was unique, meaningful and would make a positive impact in the world. I wanted to create a business that I was proud of and that I could stand behind.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud to say that I have been able to build my businesses from the ground up, with no outside funding or resources. My goal is to be able to create a lifestyle for myself that allows me to pursue my passion for acting and other pursuits. I also want to be able to employ others to help me operate my businesses, create jobs and spread my vision.
Through my journey, I have learned that you should never let the lack of resources stop you from pursuing your dreams. You should never be afraid to ask for help and advice, and you should never be afraid to take chances and risks. I have also learned that it’s important to have a vision, to stay focused and to never give up.
I want the world to know that I am a passionate and driven serial-entrepreneur that is determined to make a positive difference in the world. I am proud to be able to create jobs and help others, and to be able to pursue my passions and dreams. I want to inspire others to create their own businesses and to never give up on their dreams.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a week to show my best friend the best time ever in this area, I would fly my visitor into Los Angeles and create an itinerary that combines all of the best aspects: the outdoors, culture, food and shopping. Here is my perfect week of adventuring!
On day one, breakfast would be something local and special: Fromin’s Delicatessen & Restaurant in Santa Monica. After breakfast, we’d drive to Los Liones Hiking Trail. The views at Los Liones of the coast and the Pacific Ocean are stunning; we’d take lots of photos to commemorate our first day.
Day two would be spent exploring The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. There is so much to see and explore, it is worth planning an entire day here. Afterwards, we’d drive to Universal Studios for a few hours before retiring for the night.
Day 3 would be a drive down the Pacific Coast highway. We’d stop at different locations, depending on our mood, ending up in Malibu for sunset at El Matador State Beach.
Day 4 would be completely devoted to food and nightlife in West Hollywood. We’d have dinner at The Talpa, an authentic Mexican spot, before heading out for drinks and dancing.
Day 5 would be spent at Venice Beach Boardwalk. From the unique shops to the street performers, there is always something to explore here. We’d end the day with dinner at one of the seaside restaurants.
Day 6 we’d take a trip to Disneyland for the day. From Mickey Mouse to the thrilling rides, this is a day that nobody would forget.
On the last day, Sunday, we’d head to Melrose Trading Post, a huge outdoor flea market with tons of vintage clothing, jewelry, and knick knacks. We’d also have lunch at one of the food trucks in the area before driving back home to wrap up our week together.
By combining the best of the outdoors, culture, food and nightlife, this itinerary is sure to give my best friend unforgettable memories of LA!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, John Dewey. He has been with me every step of the way on my journey to success. He has been my greatest source of inspiration and support, providing me with unwavering encouragement and love.
John has been involved in every aspect of my business, from designing product to helping me with branding. He’s been a sounding board for my ideas, a critic when I needed it, and a cheerleader when I needed a boost of confidence. He’s been there for me through the good times and the bad, and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
John is also a major source of motivation. He’s always pushing me to reach higher and go further in life. He’s constantly inspiring me to take risks and step out of my comfort zone, which has enabled me to pursue all of my dreams.
