We had the good fortune of connecting with Cara Connors and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cara, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
In general, I think staying focused on working on my creative goals consistently is the key. Every single day I carve out time to push the needle forward. Even if it is just a few hours, that really starts to add up over time. I try to always remind myself to keep my head down and keep working hard, don’t get caught up in comparing myself to others, and the right opportunities will eventually come (and I’ll be ready). I also take a long, meandering walk every day which is crucial for my mental and physical health. I need to be outside and let my mind wander.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am most excited about right now is my first 1 hour stand up comedy special that will be coming out on March 12th, 2024! It’s called, Straight for Pay, and will be available to stream on Apple TV, Amazon, and more. I have poured my heart and soul into crafting this hour and toured it all over the North America and Europe, recorded it as an album, and also performed it as a full month run at this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I am really proud of how it turned out and it is a really exciting opportunity that the world will now have a chance to see it (and hopefully love it too!)

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have so many favorite places in LA, but if I were to put together the perfect weekend for someone visiting LA for the first time I would probably suggest exploring the east side. I’d start with a brunch at Millie’s in Silver Lake or Home State in Los Feliz, and follow it up with a nice walk and 2nd coffee stop at Go Get Em! I am a beach girl, so I would definitely suggest spending an afternoon down in Manhattan beach or maybe renting a bike and riding along the boardwalk. For the evening, I would suggest dinner at Bludso’s BBQ and catching a mainstage show on Friday or Saturday at the Groundlings. I’d probably close the night out at one of my new favorite queer bars, The Ruby Fruit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout the brilliant directors and amazing castmates I have had in my time at the Groundlings. The dedication, talent, and skill that I have been surrounded by for the past several years has continuously inspired me and elevated my performance and writing abilities more than I could ever have imagined. I forever grateful for the countless hours of expertise and guidance I have been provided and CANNOT WAIT to continue my journey as a member of the Groundlings Sunday Company.
