We had the good fortune of connecting with Cara-Hope Lorraine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cara-Hope, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process for starting up “Lorraine Film Studios” came from my deep passion for community. Being an actor myself, I found a profound love for connecting with people on and off screen. Whether you are in front or behind the camera, there are two stories taking place, so I wanted to find a way to bridge the gap between the two. With founding my own studio, I saw an opportunity to help build and cultivate an environment that is founded based off of deep and meaningful relationships. What begins as a coffee date or drafted script soon turns into a mini family. I truly have a heart for creation in its purest form and enjoy meeting people where they are at. My love for filmmaking and goal as a company, is to capture the eyes and ears of all people one story at a time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The number one thing I’ve learned as an artist and business order thus far is to ‘surrender to the process’. My favorite way to describe this is to use the analogy of a roller coaster. Each of us have been placed on our own individual seats of life and the enjoyment comes from sitting back, buckling up, and settling in for the ride. For so much of my life, change always seemed super scary and intimidating, but when I moved to LA I found a deep enjoyment in not knowing what might happen next. I found that by running towards the change with loving arms, I allowed myself to be present and in the moment. I soon after noticed not only a mental change but also found that my art began to flourish in ways I would have never seen coming. What started out as a move to be an ‘actor’ quickly turned into me making my own 18 minute short film, “Clothed Identity”, and acquiring an LLC for my new film company, “Lorraine Film Studios”. Now almost a year later and that same film just displayed at The Nuart Theatre to qualify for the 2024 Oscars and I couldn’t be more proud. Every single up, down, twist, and turn has all been worth it and allowed me to meet so many incredible people along the way. So I will leave on this piece of advice that has helped shape my life, “transformation comes in the pushback” and every single obstacle is an opportunity to soar to greater heights in many unique and wonderful ways.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have lived in Los Angeles, California for over a year now and so I would love to give you a “perfect” day in my life for guests that come to visit. First up, we begin at “Hooked Coffee”, located at the Dudley Market in Venice Beach. This place has some of the best coffee I’ve ever tasted in my life, and that is saying something considering my deep love for espresso. Plus, the barista who runs the pop up has an incredible personality and is very skilled in creating the best drinks so it’s more than just ‘coffee’ – it’s an experience.
Afterwards, we would take a walk on the beach to catch the California morning sun (if there isn’t a thick cloudy marine layer haha). I am a beach girl at heart so this is where I love to spend most of my down time. After being fueled up on vitamin D and great caffeine, we would head over to brunch at “Blueys” located in Santa Monica. What I love about this spot is their ambience, staff, and of course food. From the relaxed decor to the mini shopping market, it all reminds me of my child hood growing up on the east coast. Side note: I’d recommend ordering their Sweet Squash Pancakes to split … you can thank me later.
Next, it’s time to brave the LA traffic and move on over to Griffith Park. I know many people recommend this spot but it never fails to disappoint. I few months living in LA, I was shown a hidden hiking spot where you can catch the best sunset view and so this is super special to me, nothing better than an west coast sunset. Afterwards, we would checkout the famous Observatory section where we can look at the planets through a gigantic telescope and overlook the Los Angeles city lights.
Lastly to finish off the night, dinner at “Osteria La Buca” – aka the best Italian food in LA. I love being able to sit outside with a great salad and large bowl of gf spaghetti cacio pepe. Fun fact, this was one of the first places I eat at once I moved to LA so it holds a very special place in my heart.
Overall, one of the main things I love about LA is how there is always SO much to do. No day has been the same for me and in my mind, this city is just one big playground for my creative brain to run wild and free.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to first say that there will never be enough words to describe my deep gratitude for each and every single person who has come alongside my path to help push me to where I am today. I can truly sit here and say there has been a multitude of people who have influenced me in this journey thus far. However, I would like to take a moment to highlight a few. First, my faith and relationship with the Lord. Within His great love, I found who I am and how all along I was born to live limitlessly. Secondly, my mom and step dad. Since day one they have been advising, believing, and encouraging me to go after my dreams. Lastly, my dearest friend Anna Belin who I’ve known for almost a decade now. From her kind heart, incredible support, and all the way to the endless laughter and memories we have shared, she has always been there for me and I am blessed to call her my best friend.
