We had the good fortune of connecting with Carianne Older and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carianne, why did you pursue a creative career?
I didn’t intend to start a creative career; it happened by chance. I was working a corporate job up until 2018 in the entertainment sector, and I was so burnt out working for someone else (and frankly bored), so I picked up the hobby of photography and started taking photos of my friends for fun. Photography was a hobby until it wasn’t anymore. My early success gave me the backbone to quit my 9-5 and start my own company. Before I could take a breath, I had moved out of my small town in South Florida to start my career in LA. I always say working for myself is destiny because my initials are CEO. I am so grateful for all of the people in my life who pushed me into a creative career, because without it, I would still be working the same unfulfilling 9-5 in a cubicle the size of a closet.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think my eye sets me apart from others. You can look at a photo of mine and tell that I took it. Whether it’s a vintage 70s aesthetic or a bloody Halloween shoot – people can see my photos and know who took it.

I recently got home from a two-month North American tour with one of my favorite artists, Charlie Puth. This was my first-ever tour. It was super exciting to embark on a journey like this. It was challenging to take a diverse set of photos when I was shooting the same show 30 nights in a row, but I really impressed myself with how I was able to capture totally different images from city to city. I always saw myself touring at least once in my life, and I am so proud that I put myself out there and tried something totally new and completely out of my comfort zone. I am so grateful for the experience and I am excited to see what comes next for me now that I’m back home in LA.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love living in LA because there’s simply so much to do. I am a big museum buff, and whenever people come to visit, I like to take them to whatever is new at LACMA or The Broad. I also find it imperative to take whoever visits to my two favorite restaurants: Jon & Vinny’s for Italian, and Kazunori for sushi. You can also catch me grabbing a juice or smoothie midday at Kreation or Dialog Cafe. I love seeing concerts, so my friends usually plan their trips around which band is in town during their stay. The last time my best friend visited me, we went to see The 1975’s latest tour.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my mentor and best friend, Kevin Sikorski. We grew into photography together. I was a model for him when he was in college, and when I started to get into photography, he was there every step of the way to help me. He studied photography (I didn’t), so whenever I had any questions for him or needed hands-on help, he was always willing to lend his expertise. Without Kevin in my life, I would not be where I am today.

I also want to give a shoutout to my right hand woman, my cousin Paulina Older. She helps run PeggyShootsFilm with me: I am the CEO, and she is the CFO. She moved here a year ago from Florida to officially work with me full time. She helps me in-person on every shoot, runs all of the logistics, and helps keep me sane and grounded. Without her help, my business would not be as strong as it is today.
