We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Demond Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlos, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m blessed to be able create, and showcase my vision of creativity, through the art of acting and of course, poetry. I’ve always felt a certain freedom when it came to expressing myself, so what better way to showcase that freedom and make a living while doing it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Speaking about myself used to be a chore because it always felt like I was speaking about a stranger or just bragging but here goes
I’m an Actor/Author based in LA from Texas
God created me therefore there is no one else like me, and that automatically gives me the confidence to know whatever room I’m placed in, I’m supposed to be there and stand out.
I have three poetry books published (Conscious Mentality, Prisms Of Thoughts, Poetic Visions) and that in itself is something that I’ll always be super proud of. I’ve always said, “Even when I’m dead and gone, my words will continue to live on…”
Was it easy? At times it was, but I truly believe that was only because my mother and my grandmother continue to pray for me daily, to have favor. There were plenty of times that my journey took some hits and I felt like this path just wasn’t meant for me, but I learned hard work pays off and to stack dream after dream after dream, never be satisfied with average. Don’t Quit!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whew now honestly I would be the last person to ask, since I’m such a homebody. But I used to be outside when I first moved here, I do have some things we could do and some nice places to check out. Shoutout my circle.
Beach-Zuma is my favorite place to enjoy and isn’t as crowded as other beaches to me.
Pantages Theatre to check out a play.
Hiking isn’t really my thing but Runyan or Fryman to enjoy some nature and fitness.
Pinz is a must because I enjoy Bowling
Night life varies honestly but again being home is where my heart is lol
Karaoke in Koreatown is fun
Last but not least food places
Breakfast Millie’s in Silverlake
Lunch Eat in Noho
Happy Hour/ Vegan Gracias Madre in Weho
Dinner Takami Sushi in DTLA or Jinya Ramen Studio City
Desert Salt &Straw Larchmont or Krispy Kreme
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My answer is really simple(my mother and my brother) are my main Shoutouts!
Now of course I have other family members and some close friends who made sure I was good, but honestly if I named everybody I def wouldn’t have enough room lol but there’s plenty of people who I make sure that I’m succeeding for and they deserve recognition, because it’s def been a team effort thus far. So if you’re reading this, you guys know who you are, Thank you!
