Meet Carmen Sanchez | Florist ,Caterer & Event Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carmen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When we decided to open the flower shop, we had no prior experience in running a business. It was a significant risk, and we didn’t know whether we would succeed or fail, especially as newcomers to a country where we didn’t yet speak the language. We didn’t even know how to arrange flowers professionally at the time; we simply followed our instincts and took a leap of faith. Our motivation was clear: the hope for a better life and, most importantly, a brighter future for my children and me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business journey has been one of growth, passion, and perseverance. While we initially opened as a flower shop, we expanded into catering just one year later — and that decision completely transformed our path. We first began as a local florist, where you could buy daily floral arrangements. Including rentals of chairs and tables for your basic Birthday Party needs. We then added more services. We are most proud of our catering services, particularly our signature dish: Stuffed Rolled Chicken Smothered in a Mushroom Sauce. Ask any of our clients, and we guarantee they’ll name it without hesitation. This dish has become the heart of our catering menu and a key reason for our continued success. We prepare it every weekend, and it never fails to leave an impression.
But getting to where we are today was far from easy. We faced many challenges, both personal and financial. One of the most difficult times was shortly after opening the flower shop, when the 2008 recession hit just a year later. It was a time of uncertainty for so many — and we were a brand-new business trying to find our footing. On top of that, I was also navigating a divorce and was left to raise my four children on my own. Balancing motherhood, financial pressure, and a growing business tested me in every possible way. But this did not mean, I was going to give up. My kids were what kept me going. Giving up was not an option.
Running a business comes with constant ups and downs. Many people assume that starting a business means leaving behind the 9-to-5 — but in reality, you often work around the clock. I’ve experienced the highs of being fully booked for months and the lows of facing an empty calendar. You win some, you lose some. That’s the nature of entrepreneurship.
What sets us apart from others is our love for what we do. Every flower arrangement and every dish we prepare is made with intention and heart. When people ask me, “What’s your secret to making such delicious food?” I always say, “Love.” That’s the true ingredient behind every meal.
We’ve catered events for up to 1,000 guests in a single day for five weddings — and every time, we bring the same care and passion to our work. Our story is one of resilience, family, and faith in the process. If there’s one thing, I want the world to know, it’s that our brand is built on love, sacrifice, and the belief that even in the hardest times, you can build something beautiful. We are a one stop shop offering all services you need for your event.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area for a week, I’d make sure they had the ultimate local experience — filled with amazing food, iconic sights, and unforgettable fun. Here’s what a weeklong itinerary might look like:
Day 1: Breakfast at Norm’s
We’d start the trip with breakfast at Norm’s Restaurant, our absolute favorite breakfast spot. It’s a classic — hearty, reliable, and delicious — the perfect way to kick off the week. To be exact , a 3/4 LB. T-Bone Steak and Eggs . Including 2 buttermilk pancakes topped off with strawberries and chocolate chips.
Day 2: Exploring the Arts District
We’d spend a full day exploring the Arts District in Downtown LA. This neighborhood is full of vibrant street art, cool galleries, and local shops. A must-stop here is Salt & Straw, our favorite ice cream spot — their unique flavors and handcrafted style never disappoint.
Day 3: Classic California Lunch & Downtown Vibes
For lunch, we’d go with a California classic: In-N-Out Burger. If you want a fresh, iconic burger experience in Los Angeles, this is the place. A Double Double Cheeseburger, animal style with chopped chilies, Bread extra toasted. Afterward, we’d hang out in Downtown LA — exploring the Grand Central Market and the Broad Museum.
Day 4: Seafood Lovers’ Night
Dinner plans? The Boiling Crab. No one does seafood boils like they do. It’s flavorful, fun, and perfect for a lively night out with friends.
Day 5: Adventure Day
A trip to SoCal isn’t complete without theme parks. We’d spend the day at either Disneyland or Universal Studios. Both are packed with excitement, rides, and magic — it really just depends on if you’re more of a Mickey Mouse or movie-lover type!
Day 6: Beach Day
Next up: a relaxing day at Santa Monica Pier or Venice Beach. We’d enjoy the sun, rent bikes along the boardwalk, and soak in that beautiful California coastline. Let’s not forget Santa Monica’s amazing Funnel Cakes!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, my shoutout goes to my children. Alex , Jazmin , Osvaldo and Frida They have been my greatest source of strength, motivation, and purpose throughout this entire journey. Every decision I’ve made, every risk I’ve taken — including opening the flower shop — has been with their future in mind. Their love, resilience, and belief in me, even in the hardest moments, have kept me going. They are the reason I strive to do better every single day, and I truly wouldn’t be where I am without them. This family-run business would not have been possible without them. My kids have been my support system since we started since 2007. They have been involved in this journey from the very beginning, some as young as 10 years old. From day one, they jumped in and quickly adapted to the business environment, learning and growing right alongside me. Their dedication, support, and natural ability to pick up the skills we needed have truly helped shape the flower shop into what it is today. More than just my motivation, they’ve been my partners in building this dream. I wouldn’t be where I am without their love, effort, and unwavering belief in me. My daughter Frida, from a young age, she showed an incredible sense of responsibility and creativity. She didn’t just help around the flower shop — she became an essential part of it. Whether it was arranging bouquets, learning the ins and outs of customer service, or simply being by my side through the ups and downs, Frida brought passion and heart to everything she did. Watching her grow into such a capable and caring young woman has been one of the greatest joys of this journey. Her presence continues to inspire me every day.
