Meet Caroline Mcfarlane-watts | Writer & Sculptor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Mcfarlane-watts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caroline, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Stick to the plan, not to your mood.” I don’t know who to attribute this quote to as Google wont tell me, but I came across it yesterday and like it because I try to live by that mentality. It’s a slightly different way of saying “keep ploughing on” and to focus on the outcome I want. It can happen that I feel burned out but I make a cup of tea and stick to my self-imposed schedule as though I’ll fire myself if I don’t get it done!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist and sort of a storyteller, I am most proud of ‘Good Witches Bad Witches’™ – my IP I created about a world of fairy tale witches living just outside our own borders.
Establishing my own small business, Tall Tales Productions wasn’t necessarily easy but it’s been the pride of my life. I knew I wanted to tell stories and create my own brand of magic, so I moved from being a freelance Movie Miniaturist to running a small business which offers the same services and also has a workshop side which mass-produces collectible figurines of my characters. These figurines sell all over the world and are what keeps the Tall Tales lights on. I have lines produced in a factory in China and imported to the US and I have a great deal of product manufactured here domestically. Challenging at times but always rewarding and fun.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m so passionate about LA that I’d have so many things on the agenda for any visiting guest. My sister visited me not long ago and we took her up to the Griffith Observatory for the spectacular views, to the (now Tarantino owned) Vista Theatre a block from my house, Grauman’s Chinese on the Walk of Fame, the historic Miceli’s restaurant and to the beautiful Grove mall.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Aside from a supportive and open-minded family who allowed me to move 5000 miles away to pursue my dreams in California when it wasn’t happening fast enough in the UK… I’d want to offer a shoutout to LA itself. I find the city and its community inspiring and filled with opportunities and advantages if you’re a creative person marching to the beat of your own drum. Also, the incredible monster practical effects legend Alec Gillis, of Studio Gillis has been a mentor, close friend and cheerleader for me.
