Meet Carolyn Mahboubi | Professional Life and Leadership Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolyn Mahboubi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolyn, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
At a time when most professional coaches were opting for scale and growth—think selling a product online or big coaching groups—I stuck to my zone of genius, which is staying high touch and high impact. That looks like working intimately with fewer than two handfuls of clients one-on-one.
In this space, I’m not competing with anyone. Rather, I’m constantly working on peeling each client’s next layer of growth and transformation. My benchmark for success is client renewal and referrals rather than acquiring more new clients. My marketing is consistently asking myself this question:
How can I serve this client so deeply and profoundly that their investment of time and money in coaching becomes a no-brainer?

What should our readers know about your business?
I have created what the author Paul Jarvis calls a Company of One!
Having spent three decades in the luxury fashion space, first as an entrepreneur (I brought Gianni Versace to the US in 1982) and then as an executive (Hermes, YSL, and Gucci), I found myself facing the second half of my life with more questions than answers.
The main question looming large in my mid-40s was, “What matters to me now?”
The answer was freedom, service, and prosperity.
It felt risky to attempt to create a prosperous coaching business that also allowed me to live a well-balanced and integrated life. It took knowing what “enough” looks like and living according to that principle. What sets my business apart from others is that when you work with me, you never feel rushed. My clients and I are not on the clock. We operate on a much higher level and, as such, create extraordinary and sustainable change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m not coaching, I’m out in nature. I’m not the friend that takes you to the latest “hot” spot, but rather the one that takes you to amazing trails and beaches.
I would take you on an early morning ride down PCH to Point Mugu, where we would find the breathtaking Ray Miller trail. After a good day of hiking and taking in the views of the Pacific, we would pick up goodies at Vintage Grocers in Trancas and then have a picnic at El Matador Beach.
Swimming, sunshine, beach walks, wine, and naps….
Voila, my perfect LA day!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Any great Coach is a product of ongoing coaching with her coaches and teachers. As such, I want to thank Steve Chandler and Rich Litvin for being guiding lights on this journey. The rest of the credit goes entirely to my long time clients who continue to inspire me to push past my own boundaries to become a more skilled coach and trusted advisor.
