We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Place and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassidy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is the entirety of why I have had any success thus far. Starting with moving out of Philadelphia, leaving everyone I love, to musically taking those creative risks. I try to follow my intuition, and when it comes to creating my music and sound, I have tried to steer clear of the standard “what’s trending,” and make music that authentically resonates with me at that time. I have released the expectation of trying to do and create what other people think I should, and stick to what feels right to me, and so far it has worked out beautifully.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I begin my career in 2019, putting pen to paper and realizing words just flew out of me. Beforehand, singing was always a fear and a pipe dream. After realizing I had a lot to say and write (without even knowing the true structure of a song) I utilized the few connections I had to move to LA and record my first EP. My voice somehow always resonates and feels best within the realm of jazz, I have always been in love with 50s powerhouse vocalists (Billie Holiday, Julie London, Dinah Washington, etc) So that is where I began in terms of my creative process. I found a producer and friend in Dejour Thomas, and together we brought to life my vision of an EP with all live musicians, bringing an ode to the 1950s old Hollywood jazz era, while finding my own voice and style at the same time.

Making and creating “As You Wish” is something I will never forget. “Red” was the first song I had ever written, and was the first song to do really well and connect with people after the release of my first EP, “As You Wish” (2022). I have had no label, management, PR team, social media management, any of it, which in hindsight was my biggest lesson in teaching me nobody is going to the work for you and believe in you like you yourself can. Since then, I have gigged anywhere that would take me throughout LA.

My second EP, “Venom”(2024) I wanted to embrace more of a femme fatal, pop/jazz style, and my latest project “Lost in the Heat”,(2024) has that jazz sound with a bit of a latin flare. I try to bring a different style and feeling to each project I make, creatively pushing myself to approach different genres and not being pegged in one box musically.

Knowing social media is such a huge part of the industry is of course in the back of my mind, but my main focus has been honing in and perfecting my performance abilities, and continuing to write and create music that feels good to me. Of course there are challenges in choosing this path of being a creative. The late hours, hard work, constant “no’s”. What I continue to try and remember is that there is more than one route to succeed, and as long as I continue to make music I love, be kind, and work hard, everything will unfold organically.

I will be in New York City this fall, singing at different venues and continuing to grow an authentic audience while new music continues to release, that I am really excited for!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have absolutely loved living in LA. I am from the east coast so at first it was definitely a culture shock. I currently reside in Santa Monica, and feel so grateful to be able to see and walk to the ocean every single day. If my best friend was in town, Id first rent bikes, go through Santa Monica and Venice, my favorite sushi is Kazunori, and end it with a sunset picnic down by the PCH. There are so many fun bars and restaurants to see. Locally for live music, I love checking out Harvelles, or for a little more action, on sunset strip is Whiskey a gogo which to this day was my favorite performance venue!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my amazing family. They are my rocks and best friends. Without their complete support and understanding, allowing me to feel my lows, but reminding me of my highs, I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am today. I am eternally grateful
