We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassie Guliano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue a creative career for the freedom it comes with once the hard work takes off. I then realized down the road that actually is not always the case, because as an independent contractor you wear all the hats and that can take up a lot of time and dedication , I became a hair dresser for the ability to express myself in my work and to bring my clients visions to life, the inner people pleaser in me (when I was younger) was elated with this career choice. Hair dressing is emotional. People feel like shit when they aren’t happy with their hair. Although the scale can go to an extremely vain side, let’s be real, when you like the way, your hair looks you literally feel better about yourself. I also knew that there were so many exciting pathways in this career, set work, color work, events! I have had a blast getting out there and experiencing all this career has to offer. At this point, the hustle in me has settled down, I am happy with being behind the chair over here on the west side. Its been a wild ride, and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am creative in every aspect of my life. My work in the beauty industry is just one part of who I am as an artist. All of my hobbies are creative. I am a painter; I am an actress. I am working on my first horror film right now and have one other feature film under my belt as a lead called The Golf Ball. I am blessed that my craft has allowed me to pursue my other passions and supported me along the way. It is not easy staying focused on all the things I love. I have overcome challenges just by never giving up. I also learned along the way that you need to be comfortable being alone and giving yourself time and space to water your garden. My garden is my mental health and my art. I want the world to know that the world needs us to create, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there because no one can do it like you do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend on a tour of each little pocket of la that I love day by day. Monday I would make sure we go up to Topanga and explore the shops, then head over to Malibu area. We would eat at Moonshadow’s because its classic then head over to my favorite “private” beach. Tuesday – Thursday would be Hollywood, K Town, downtown, Santa Monica. I would make sure they saw the Getty, hike the observatory, and take them to downtown for the museums and dine on some rooftop, probably 71 above or Level 8. Our Hollywood experience would include universal studios, my favorite Houston Brothers bars like Harvard and Stone, Breakroom 86 and Davey Waynes. K town would include all my favorite food spots like quarters, and the line hotel restaurant, maybe even somewhere new that I haven’t been to, I would take them out to Venice beach on a Sunday and make sure we go roller skating and get some funnel cake. I honestly like exploring new spots so I would try to find places we both have never tried before too, as long as it had great reviews.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to my grandparents on both sides of my family. My grandfather on my moms side was a barber for twelve years before he became a self taught engineer. My grandmother on my dads side was also a hair dresser her whole life. The funny thing is, its literally in my blood because I didn’t know my grandma was a hair dresser, as I never met her growing up. Shout out to them both regardless though because I would not be alive today if they did not start their families. My grandpa basically raised me and supported my entire family (twelve people) growing up. I was halfway through university, when I had the epiphany to drop out and go to hair school. Best decision I ever made and I was supported by my grandfather. My old friend Natalie Royer deserves a shoutout too, she was encouraging me during my process, she knew I would be great as a hair dresser. Shoutout to RCC Cosmetology program. They offer a beauty program that is covered by financial aid, thankfully I did not have to pay 20k to go to school, I basically went for free. The staff there were not easy on me and helped me build a backbone that I needed to take this career seriously.
