We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine McCord and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Catherine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After graduating I realized I could cook a gourmet meal, but had no idea how to make my new baby a great eater from day one. I began blogging on Weelicious daily and connecting with moms all over the world dealing with the same challenges feeding their families. Over the years I had people begging me to start selling Weelicious meals and that’s how One Potato was born. We took the data from the most popular Weelicious recipes and began sending semi prepared, organic meals with unique family pricing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started Weelicious and One Potato as passion projects that have turned into strong businesses I’m now merging into one. When you start your own business you have to teach yourself everything, so there’s no job I won’t do and try to learn as from those around me. I’m never afraid to ask what I don’t know and admit when what I would like to learn. Weelicious has always been self funded, so fundraising was a skill I’ve had to learn along the way in order to propel major growth with the company.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start with a 90 minute hike in Griffth park for a gorgeous view of Los Angeles. Next stop All Time restaurant for the best breakfast burritos in the city. Sunset Junction has always been a favorite spot and now even more. A facial at Heyday, pick up a gift at Clare V, a drink and healthy goodies at the new Erewon and lunch at Botanica. Head downtown to walk in the shops in Little Tokyo and the Korean Mall before heading to dinner at L & E for the best Oysters around. Sunday up super early to shop at the Hollywood Farmers Market and then to the beach for a walk along the board walk and then park at the Anneburg to enjoy the surf. Early dinner at the Ivy on the Shore for their classic bbq vegetable salad, fried chicken dinner and brownie sundae.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by incredible mentors. On the blogging side, Ree Drummond has done an incredible job turning her blog into a successful media company. She’s generous, talented and kind. My shoutout goes to all the dynamic women out there building businesses from passion and true grit.
