Meet Catia Sander | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Catia Sander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catia, is there something you believe many others might not?
I think symmetry is often overplayed in design, as it can become a default approach due to its association with balance and order. While symmetry creates a sense of predictability and harmony, relying on it too heavily can lead to designs that feel stagnant or uninspired.
Asymmetry, on the other hand, can introduce excitement and innovation by breaking those conventions. It allows for unexpected compositions, adding a sense of dynamism and intrigue.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My unique blend of architecture and interior design expertise, allowing me to create spaces that are both structurally sound and beautifully detailed. Being from Brazil also brings a distinctive cultural influence to my work, adding vibrancy, warmth, and a rich palette of experiences to my designs. This combination of skills and background allows me to craft spaces that are truly one-of-a-kind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While a friend is in town for the week, we’ll kick things off with a day at Santa Monica Pier, taking in the ocean views, riding the Ferris wheel, and grabbing lunch right by the beach. The next morning, we’ll hike Runyon Canyon for some incredible city views and, with any luck, spot a few celebrities along the way. Malibu is a must, so we’ll spend a day at Paradise Cove, lounging on the beach, and driving along the Pacific Coast Highway to soak in the breathtaking coastal scenery.
I’m definitely taking them to the Getty Center for its stunning architecture, art, and gardens. It’s a perfect way to get inspired and take a break from the city. We’ll also have a day in Beverly Hills, strolling down Rodeo Drive and experiencing the luxury up close. One of the highlights will be a visit to the Huntington Library in Pasadena. We’ll explore the beautiful gardens and indulge in high tea at the Rose Garden Tea Room.
We’ll dedicate an evening to Downtown LA, catching a concert at the Disney Concert Hall and diving into the city’s food scene. I’ll take them to Koreatown for some authentic Korean BBQ and to Olvera Street for some Mexican cuisine another night. This week will be a perfect blend of culture, relaxation, and discovering the vibrant culinary diversity LA has to offer

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In my career, I’ve been fortunate to receive unwavering support from several key people. My old employers played a pivotal role, helping me grow both personally and professionally. My friends, who were also my first clients, trusted in my abilities from the very beginning. Most importantly, my husband and family have been my constant source of encouragement, never ceasing to believe in me, no matter the challenges I faced. Their collective belief in me has fueled my drive and success.
