We had the good fortune of connecting with Catlin Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catlin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think many people overlook the creativity and artistry in everyday items like technology. But I believe that technology is actually the most accessible form of design and serves as a canvas for ideas that we interact with every day. Every platform we use, the phones that we touch, the laptops that we type on; were all designed by someone with a certain vision in mind and a particular experience to convey.
Keeping all of this in mind, I founded Nutripair which is a software solution that helps people find the best foods for their dietary needs when dining at restaurants.
Taking a creative and artistic approach to building a software company has been exciting because it challenges people’s expectations of what a tech founder often looks like, especially as a young Vietnamese woman. Building Nutripair has allowed me to create a unique, technologically-driven experience that combines design, food, and creativity into impactful software.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Nutripair is an early-stage FoodTech startup that addresses a significant problem affecting a considerable portion of the population in the United States, specifically the 32 million Americans who suffer from food intolerances.
Living with food intolerances can be challenging, especially when dining out at restaurants which is why Nutripair’s mission is to make life easier for people dietary requirements by providing them with a comprehensive solution to find the best foods that fit their needs.
We are committed to making this experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible.
I’ve been able to get to where I am today business-wise by taking up any and all opportunities regardless of how ready I felt in the moment. Throwing myself into the deep end and learning as I go has taught me how to be agile and learn from my mentors/advisors experiences. Being a founder is certainly not an easy journey, but my willingness to learn has been immensely helpful.
As a leader, I’ve also learned that it is important to detach your identity from your company in order to make objective decisions and take feedback from an unbiased and impartial perspective.
Humility is another crucial aspect of a leader. I’ve learned that being able to willing admit to mistakes, take feedback, and continuously learn helps build strong relationship and foster a positive work environment.
We are excited to announce that our team is gearing up for the second testing round of our mobile app for those with food intolerances. In this upcoming testing phase, we have added even more features than what was available in the first round, making our solution even more comprehensive. We are confident that these new features will further enhance each users’ dining experience. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend were visiting Southern California for a few days, I would recommend stopping at these places for Breakfast:
– Able coffee Roasters in Huntington Beach: I highly recommend trying the Sensory latte and the Veggie Breakfast Burrito.
– Toast Kitchen + Bakery in Costa Mesa: Their hot vanilla latte is a must, and all their menu items are equally delicious.
– Artisan Cafe in Fountain Valley: I suggest trying their sea cream black coffee and ordering either the Parisian Benedict or the Mochicho Chicken Sandwich.
Then get in some exercise by hiking at the Buck Gully Reserve Trail in Corona Del Mar, Back Bay Loop in Newport Beach or taking a walk at the HB beach and stopping by the Pier.
I’d stop by a few museums and attractions in LA like the Getty Museum and Sunset Hike in Malibu.
For lunch, I would suggest:
– A Market in Newport Beach for really good sandwiches
– Jan’s Health Bar for healthy alternatives and smoothies.
For dinner, I would recommend checking out:
– The Vox Kitchen in Fountain Valley
– Pho 247 or Brodard for delicious Vietnamese food
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I’m thankful for in my journey as a Founder.
I’m very thankful for the amazing team that I get to work with every day. Each member brings a unique perspective to Nutripair. They are truly the one’s that help us bring our mission of making eating easier, safer, and more convenient to life.
Every mentor who has helped Nutripair on our journey has given us guidance to foresee obstacles and find solutions to grow and scale.
We couldn’t do this without our amazing users and early adopters who test our platform and provide feedback. Every suggestion helps our team build the Nutripair platform to make a bigger and better impact in the world of food accessibility and ease in dining.
Last but not least, my family and boyfriend have given me so much guidance and support as a founder. Their ongoing love and support gets me through all the good, bad, and ugly times of building a business.
